WTB: zetec svt spark plug cover

Recommended Posts

Can't seem to find a svt spark plug cover online. Only the regular zetec covers pop up. Anyone have a svt cover laying around that they don't need? Trying to keep water out of the the spark plug area. If I can't get an svt one I might try modifying a regular zetec cover to clear the vct sensor.

They're available easily enough through your local Ford dealer's parts department; however, there is commonly a problem with the front of the cover fitting under the bonnet. The height needed for the cover to clear the VCT solenoid creates problems. Here's one possible solution:

You might want to try Tousley Ford, White Bear Lake Minnesota

800-328-9552

They do a big mail order businees, are knowledgeable and are usually 40% less than my local Ford dealer.

Steve in parts drives an SVT Focus and is active on the Focus Forums.

dallasdude- Thanks for the tip. I'll try giving him a call when I have time. Working 6 days a week and the timezone difference makes it a bit hard tho. Do they happen to have a website or an email contact?

Yes I should have posted the link thanks. Most everything can be looked up and ordered online and it works pretty well....you only have to call about special order items like ZX-3 and SVT cam followers....but they are willing to do that too.

If the spark plug cover is discontinued I might know where some used ones are. Maybe functional but a little weathered.

  • 2 weeks later...

Saw this on a Focus forum http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=260058&page=4 http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=260058 Looks like it is still available. I don't know anything about the site but for $30 you can't go too far wrong. I picked up a plug cover on Ebay awhile back for $25 or so but don't see any listed right now.

Thanks croc. I saw those but they don't look like they seal against water very well. The first would fit, but the 2nd would need trimming.

I think they seal about as well as the factory original. When I saw one that SVT cover the one time in a focus, it was four screws holding it down. There was no seal on each side between the plastic cover and the cam cover. So if water found its way onto the top of the cam cover or the SVT plug cover then it was always going to drain down between the common joint into the central cam cover valley. It was for this reason I never bothered to track down the part that was always missing the time I had the car. You have a much bigger rain issue than I ever did so I really do understand your need for something. At $30 it looks like the link above is a reasonably priced option to get one and see if it works the way you want.

The first option of Carbon Mods is probably the best design for what you are trying to prevent since it will at least shed the water off to the side of the block. You could probably fabricate one of these yourself in thin ali as a temporary measure to see if it works?

Correct. The cover is more cosmetic and dust cover than anything else. It will reduce the chance of getting water on the plugs, but it is certainly not water tight.

Thanks for the heads up. I just pm'ed that owner to see if he still has the cover. I'm not looking for a water tight cover just something to keep the water down. I didn't like it when I saw how much water collected in the holes when I changed out the sparkplugs. Hmm that reminds me, I should put some dielectric grease in the boots to keep some of the water out.

Thanks for all the help. I followed up on the focusfanatics tip and just sent in a payment for the valve cover and sparkplug cover for $42 shipped. Hopefully it doesn't take too long to arrive.
