jlumba81 Posted August 4, 2011 Share Posted August 4, 2011 I just recently got a TACK cam from raceoptics. I have 2 mounts for it a suction and a rollbar mount. The suction mount is loose and rattles when the car is running. With the rollbar mount the cam picks up noise from the rollbar. The cam has the option to use an external mic. Anyone know of a good place to that will pick up the exhaust and not very much wind noise? I'm planning on padding the rollbar mount a bit and retrying it. But will probably replace the suction mount w/ a Delkin Devices Fat Gecko double suction cup mount. Anyone w/ other mount suggestions? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Croc Posted August 4, 2011 Share Posted August 4, 2011 Hi Jude - I got a tip recently on blatchat that putting the external mic in the boot under the boot cover eliminates the wind noise but gives acceptable results. I have not tried this yet but listening to another video it sounded ok. The alternative is what I have been experimenting with - routing it forward up under the dash - problem is that it is a long way from the roll bar... slomove Posted August 4, 2011 Share Posted August 4, 2011 My best mic place so far is to shove it behind the seat back rest, probably similar to the boot. It does however still pick up a lot of hissing tire noise and the rumble of rolling over uneven road. Under the dash on top of the gearbox was not impressive due to tranny whining. I have the external mike wrapped into an old sock to isolate it against vibration/body noise. At one point I had the microphone inside the engine compartment but that was a strange concerto of odd sounds (rattling/slurping/humming) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Its on teh shot list of units to consider as the tethered cam allows it to be mounted to a helmet w/ minimal fuss or to the roll bar. The larger integrated screen on the base unit s a plus too. The mic doesn't come w one of those foam wind guards. Should I get one? I'm trying to figure out a decent setup before doing a 1500mi trip next month. Haines, AK to Anchorage, AK. Visit some family, eat out a bit and do an autox event. I forgot I have a flip video cam and it fits my panvise rollbar mount. I'll have to try that out when the weather gets better. I just ordered the fat gecko double suction mount so I might try running both cameras. I can use the flip for in car video out of the wind and the tack cam for outside video since its water resistant.
