If you had a budget of $35K max and needed the following requirements:

1. Has a factory warranty until 100k miles or a responsible one is obtainable.

2. Is a convertible or has a removable hard top.

3. Is fun to drive as a daily driver and occasional spirited and/or rare track day.

4. Is quick.

5. Is relatively well made.

What would you get or what do you have?

How many seats and doors?

Would it have to haul anything?

Define "well-made". Would warranty repairs remove the need to be well made? Do you mean refinment and NVH?

Define "quick". Straight line, twisties, both?

Parking requirements?

I love the Elise as my daily driver and it has most of your requirments but cannot be parallel parked which makes it harder to use.

There are a host of vehicles that meet those requirements.

As a convertible your talking two door I would guess.

So here is what I would go for with that budget in mind and I am a cheap-skate so take it with a grain of salt and a smile.

New cars cheapest to most expensive: Smart, Fiat 500c, Mazda Miata, BMW Mini S, VW Beetle, Ford Mustang, Eclipse Spyder, Chevrolet Camaro, VW Eos, BMW 128.

I personally have a Mazda Miata and bang for the buck it is my choice for a daily commuter that is economical and can be fun to drive and the most important thing about it is my wife even likes it when she gets to drive it.

Now if you go into the used and dealer approved cars their are a lot of two or three year old vehicles that new would be out of that budget but well within the 35K budget you have set and they include cars like the BMW Z4, the Porsche Boxster, the MB CLK and SLK Class, Jaguar, Cadillac SRX and many more.

You can always purchase an extended warranty when buying a dealer certified vehicle and you will be able to get a lot more for your money but that is just my thoughts.

have a 7 variant with a rotary-- meets all except the warranty, but have gobs of cash left over, is quick by any standard, will lift front wheels, one gear to 60mph, heat will roast you out, put 3500 miles on it this year as daily driver---- second choice would be a Miata with a handling and turbo kit. super reliable tight in weather and smooth fun to drive, wont satisfy your machismo though. At 70 the ac is tempting.
