James A Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 Well, if it is a Caterham than it is a 1972 or later. And if it is a Caterham, why all the Lotus badges etc.?
75TwinCam Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 Nice looking car for a great price, for sure. Not a 72, 73 - those were the last S4's. Not even a 75 or 76, but it is a 1970s vintage chassis. It would take some research with yearly production numbers and where this CS3-4108(?) is in line to pin it down. Or just the Arch number on the pedal brace. The early builder's plates were "Seven Cars", not "Caterham". The dash layout looks later than mine -1975 manufacture. Even if the engine did come with the car - builder's plate doesn't suggest this, the tall block Twinks were later in the production run of Twin-Cam engined cars. Whatever the heritage, this car is gonna make someone real happy for the price.
DavidL Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 the spare wheel has the early 80's factory Caterham wheel style.
MoBoost Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 I see a lot of components that are the same as mine (1985 build). My serial number is 4417...
bsimon Posted April 21, 2012 Posted April 21, 2012 I know that chassis number CS3 37xx (xx CS3 4100 should be 1980-1983, best guess.
MHKflyer52 Posted April 21, 2012 Posted April 21, 2012 Just my belief but the 7 your talking about is most likely registered as a 1967 to get around the emission and safety requirements and is most likely a newer model. The reason I say this is my car is registered that way because it is a replica of an early model car and I know of a lot of other 7's that are registered as an early model year for the same reasons. Still a very nice car and whom ever ends up with it will have a very nice vehicle from what I can see from the photos.
