Canadian 7
Going to change the rear seal on my Westfield this weekend. Tranny is Ford type 9. Looking at the situation it seems that once I undo the 4 bolts that connect the rear of the driveshaft to the diff, the shaft will not drop down to pull out of tranny because there is a frame member underneath. Anybody done one? Ps. If you answer from UK, just substitute prop shaft for drive shaft! lol. Thanks, Ron
JohnCh
I've never removed just the driveshaft, but going from memory, the chassis tubing that gets in the way only overlaps the rear of the driveshaft by a couple of inches. If that’s the case, one option is to move the engine and transmission assembly forward by the same amount to give the needed clearance. I’ve taken a similar approach to remove the sump, which on my car requires separating the bell housing from the block. It was definitely much easier and faster than pulling the engine out of the car. Might be worth a look to see if that would work here. -John
Canadian 7
Worked on it today - no problem, driveshaft can go up and over differential!
