dinanminicooper
Hello all! New here and new owner of Hank's Megabusa. Planning to road race it and wanted to ask a couple of questions if ok! 1. What is best tire and size on 7x13s'? R888 avail, CR500 of course but how to source, I would prefer slicks, formula ford/continental sizing please thank you! 2. AP racing 4 pots. What is the best source for pads and which best for track? Thanks and excited to be an involved member here! Matt
joshesh
Look at Avon, they make tired in various 13" diameter and softness compounds.
blubarisax
mog-racing.com sells new and used Michelin slicks that I quite like. Shipping from Germany is not as bad as you think. They come from Formula BMW and Renault cars.
James A
Are your cambers set up for bias ply or radial tires? For radials I like Hoosier A6s or R6s, not much else compares unless you go to a full race tire like the Hoosier 43543 R80 in radial or the 43191 45B in Bias ply. But, the 43543 and 43191 won't last long, we get one race weekend out of them, in other words about 3 hours of track time, but it is hard time! The A6s and R6s wear much better at close to the same grip, but if you are road racing and need that little extra edge then go with full race tires rather than the DOTs. If you are doing track days, DEs, then as others suggest, take-offs, R888, other far less expensive options.
CarMan
I have been running Hoosier R6 this year and am very pleased I have used them in 7 practice sessions 4 qualifying sessions and 4 races. They still have a lot of life in them and I adjust the pressures to the track. Using a laser pyrometer across the tread gives me an idea of how much pressure to put in each one. I understand you are from Denver. Too bad. Was hoping to see another Caterham on the Northeast area. Just returned from a National Race at Lime Rock Park. First time in this car at this track. Super Hot. Track was Super Greasy. Finished Third. BUT I HAD A FREAKING BLAST! Good Luck to you and your racing
dinanminicooper
Thanks for everyone's input. Since I am going to be running NASA TT for the next season or two, Hoosier R6s are what I am going to go with. Contingency program can win me Hoosiers too. 185/60/13 front, 205/60/13 rear. I could go 205 fronts too, benefit or worse due to weight distribution? Thanks again! Matt
James A
I would recommend front camber of -3 degrees and use the -1.5 degree rear camber plates, start there and tire test to see where you should end up. Can't go wrong with R6s, the sizes you are planning to use will work just great.
Klasik-69
I'm running -2.8 on the front with Hoosier R6 205 50 R15 front & rear. Rear is stock De dion rear axle set up for SCCA TT events. I don't think this is the best set up however, maybe too much neg camber on the front drags down top speed with little cornering gain. Perhaps others with more 7 track time can chime in & give their opinion. Good luck.
Kitcat
Why not A6's? I know they are an auto-x compound, but our cars are so light I think they wld heat cycle out before cording. My newly purchased Caterham uses Goodyear slicks, huge in back, small up front. Apparently they are predominant in Formula Ford. Under SSCA's archaic rules, wheel width is limited to 7&1/2", so there is much overhang on both sides of the rims. Haven't tried them yet, cant wait to. Do not use cantilever tires on wheel widths they weren't designed for.
