Kitcat
My '03 Zetec's starter has died. What is the replacement/source? When the starter on my X-Flow died, we ultimately had it rebuilt as replacements were not to be found. I am hoping the Zetec will be more user friendly? glenntwincam
all zetec's with manual trans use same starter . check local NAPA or rock auto . if there's any doubt , remove it and take to parts store for ID & comparison.
Kitcat
Thx Glenn, we are on it! Once I fix the starter I will try to find out why (else) the engine won't run. I was doing laps at my first lapping day in it recently and it just spluttered out. At 1st it wldt rev over 2K, then nuttin. Seemed like bad gas, or (my theory) degraded foam from fuel-safe tank. We shall see. Good thing I have a backup se7en:). When it ran tho, man, it was fast:outta my way GTR, etc.
MBEARDEN
I replaced the weak Ford starter with the Gustafson starter...it really spins the motor...the old starter worked fine when the car was cold...but could hardly turn over when hot. bball7754
I was at the same trackday, and can confirm that Mike's Caterham is fast. Seeing him close 8-10 car lengths on a Vette in the final turn before the main straight was fun to watch. Steve
MichaelD
Mike, I wound up having mine rebuilt as well. As far as the sputtering out goes, I would try replacing the crank sensor and the wires leading to it. I carry a spare and have had to replace it several times. Good luck
Kitcat
Wires to starter were shot, replaced wires and now the starter (an Autolite) works fine again. Spluttering is due to bad fuel pump, it's being replaced (same unit as used in Porsche 911). Here's hoping.
