BusaNostra Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 (edited) Do you think 205/40/16 will work in the seven? Anyone have tried 40 series and 16 ? Edited March 18, 2013 by BusaNostra
bsimon Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 205-40-16 is a hard size to find. FWIW...The Caterham HPC was originally shod with 205-45-16 Michelin Pileups.
BusaNostra Posted March 19, 2013 Author Posted March 19, 2013 (edited) I have a 16 inch wheels and would like to use it. I wonder if anyone has 16/40 & has handling issue. I saw a couple of 40 & 45 tires - Bridgestone & kuhmo If the HPC used them before, maybe it's ok? Edited March 19, 2013 by BusaNostra
scannon Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 My Caterham came from the factory with 205/40-16 (or it might have been /45) Avon ZZX (?) tires. It handled well on those but changing to 205/50-15 front and 225/50-15 R-888's made a noticeable improvement in ride and handling.
BusaNostra Posted March 19, 2013 Author Posted March 19, 2013 Thanks scannon -- I worry about the ride. The 40's is like a rubber band -- maybe I go 45-16? give a little meat. 40 looks good but could be a hard ride.
scannon Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 I don't think the difference between 40 & 45 will make much difference in the ride. It is more dependent on sidewall stiffness and overall construction. I run 225/40-16 Toyo T1Rs all around on my Miata and the ride is quite comfortable even with the stiff springs and shocks. I don't like the T1Rs for their ability to flat spot after sitting only a few hours. After a day or two without being driven it takes 5 - 10 miles of thumping before they become round again. When the lift is not in use for other work, the Miata sits on it a few inches off the ground when not being driven.
BusaNostra Posted March 19, 2013 Author Posted March 19, 2013 ok---so maybe i will try it, if i waste it...it's only money huh? thanks for the feedback.
raceral Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 I am using 205/50/16's all around and I find the ride is good, not to stiff. Al
