Second trip to DMV but still no tags. Paid the title tax and applied for the title. They would not accept the insurance cards which by law I have to carry in the car as proof of insurance.

The state (geographically ;-) you are in completely determines the process you'll need to go through.

You need to move to Florida, you could have walked in with a bill of sale written on a napkin, and your insurance card on your smart phone and walked out with tags and a title already printed out.........

Tried the smart phone. Unless I had a printer hooked up to it it wasn't valid. Their fax machine and the insurance database system were both down.

For future reference, and this should help others, you need to have a copy of your insurance binder.

Had a copy of the policy and the declarations page. They would not accept either.

What state are you in?

Sounds like your DMV is giving you a hard time.

Ask them to give you an example of the paper work you need and ask nicely.

In GA. The state has a list of documents that it will accept. A binder letter, added to state insurance database, a letter of insurance coverage are all acceptable. I suspect that what I had did not specifically say any of these things they were reluctant to accept them. With jobs hard to find these days they probably do not want to lose theirs. They were as nice as could be but those who made the regulations are really the ones to blame.

seafarer,

Ga. I figured would not be that difficult unlike some other states.

Hang in there and keep pressing forward as it is all worth it in the end.

Already done. I had to wait until the GA insurance database was up again and it sailed right thru.

Excellent news, we expect to see pictures of your excursions (with or without your wife ).

Enjoy the ride(s).
