7 sized car trailers?

My enclosed 7x14 trailer maybe weights 2500lbs max with the Se7en in it and everyone I have talked to pooh poohs my idea of trading in my gas guzzleing 2003 Silverado 1500HD "Queen Mary" for a Toyota Tacoma pickup (the small one). They say it won't pull it safely. I wish I could get the straight story!!! Russ

I do believe the wife and I will end up with a TDI, Either a Jetta or Passat. The Jetta touring car (wagon) 6spd manual is looking the favorite.

Here is a repost of the Golf TDI video. Listen towards the end, It has a LEGAL towing limit of 1600Kg (3500Lbs)

Back to trailers, have been looking at triton tilt bed snowmobile trailers, aluminum, and can be had with a tilting top that may clear a seven. http://www.tritontrailers.com/products/Model.aspx?CatID=31&SubCatID=35&ModelID=529&info=specifications http://www.tritontrailers.com/products/Model.aspx?CatID=31&SubCatID=35&ModelID=529&info=specifications

I think if I were paying $14 million dollars per gallon of gas like the lucky europeans get to do daily, I would push my 7 to and from the track, and likely push it around the track as well. How much fun is it when you're shelling out all that money and it turns into exhaust gas ?

Since fuel is so expensive, isn't it better to just drive the 7 to the track or other events and maybe pull a little lightweight trailer behind it ?

My frame of reference when I started this and another thread about trailers is that the wife and I will retire in a couple of years. I do not and will not be tracking the 7. I bought the 7 to cruise, socialize, And just generally having fun driving a rather unique and great looking car. Therefore, We want a vehicle that is nice, gets good economy and can on occasion tow a light weight trailer to take the 7 with us to a destination.

A carbureted seven certainly isn't very miserly with fuel, And with an 8 gallon tank isn't exactly a touring car. There are places in Eastern Washington state where I own a home that one might have to fill a motorcycle pull trailer with fuel cans so as to not run out between stations.

As one of my friends is fond of saying: Turning gasoline into adrenalin, one gallon at a time.

If it comes to the point that I cannot afford gasoline for fun things like the Caterham, Miata, WRX and such I will check myself into the assisted living/nursing home and hope to die quickly.

Too many misspellings on that webpage for me to be comfortable with their product!

I generally agree with this statement and more often than not will walk away from from ads that cobble up the syntax...but if you look at all the aspects of their webpage it looks pretty legit....

there a lot of Triton aluminum snowmobile trailers for sale in snow country and at what seems to me as a reasonable price, the quality is good, biggest problem is the small tires used in order to get a flat deck, but they also make a lower narrower deck with wheels outside the deck under fenders, just harder to find used and I am looking for one who's expected lifespan sort of matches mine. And in Utah under 750lbs empty requires no registration nor title.

I always like the tilt trailer that Brunton sells for its Stalker. However, I often wondered why it wasn't made of aluminum to make it even better by being lighter. Having said that, I'm not sure how much weight would be saved. If it could be built to be lighter than 600 lbs, it would put the total trailered weight well under 2000 lbs which would allow almost any car to pull it safely. Bigdog would get his wish of a lightweight trailered 7 and to boot, one that is easy to load and unload the car. Some trailers are light and handy but not that easy to load and unload. My open trailer is great for the track events and suits me fine but most people would call it a PIA to tie down the car.
