Trailers from the European prespective

My wifes grandpa used to pull his 16' tandem axle cattle trailer with one and sometimes two cows to sell with his 95 Toyota Camry. It was bit odd looking in Texas the land of the truck, but he did it for 20 years with all kinds of mid size sedans.

One Issue I can see is that if you ever get pulled over by your state police and they check your vehicle tow rating tag located in the door of the vehicle. Its a fairly stiff fine for exceeding the tow rating. Probably a slim chance of ever getting pulled over, but it could happen.

You just dont want to be in this situation

Hi Terry, That's a nice little trailer, were are they made ? I would like it better if it had brakes.

Hope you are well, Steve

You can retrofit electric brakes at moderate cost (e.g. etrailer.com)

I towed my Caterham SV behind my 2007 STI all over Alberta & BC.

I saw this photo years ago and loved it.

Have you had any turbo issues? I had a 2007 2.5i and it was rated for 2,000 lbs but I seem to recall no rating for the WRX and STI. My best guess was that this omission was related to turbo cooling (or lack there of).

Just going to pop in here for a quick sec. I run VW TDI specific shop here in PA and ive seen my customers tow all sorts of things. Some tow in the golf on a tow dolly pulled by their jetta... The vw diesels are amazing vehicles and the book "specs" for towing are VERY under rated. That being said i would always recommend a properly balanced trailer as not to put to much weight on the hitch and to use trailer brakes (electrical).

If im lucky ill find a pic of my own 2001 golf towing another golf (or corrado?) about 7 years ago.

As a side note. The TDI cars we get here in the states are tuned DOWN. A software reflash can have increases of 25% in power and a small INCREASE in fuel econ.

If you have TDI related questions feel free to message me.
