rnr
Taking issue and being hostile with people because you don’t agree with you only reveals your true self. In the end you are free to come to what ever conclusions you like regarding the posts on this forum, please have the decency to allow other to enjoy the same privilege. I am trying to have you understand how insulting your original statement about christianity is to the rest of us. I honestly dont believe that my statement was any more offensive or insulting than that (especially in a forum labeled as "controversy"). Offending you or anyone else on this forum was not my intent - I apologize if you feel offended by my tone and chalk the original misunderstanding up to text not being the best way to convey emotion and nuance. I am still curious to hear more about why you believe that current social norms were exclusively created by christianity and hope we can continue this discussion. As I previously stated I am not a Christian or attempting to defend Christian values. My perception having traveled to over 60 countries is that most nations have adopted Christian values, it appears that the 10 commandments work in most places.
rnr
As I previously stated I am not a Christian or attempting to defend Christian values. My perception having traveled to over 60 countries is that most nations have adopted Christian values, it appears that the 10 commandments work in most places. And I am trying to state that it is not only the 10 commandments or christianity at work. Most civilized societies have gravitated towards fairly similar value systems since before christianity and will continue to do so well whether or not they have heard of Jesus. Plus what you call christian values (and I call social values) have changed radically over time (slavery, segregation, gay marriage) while the bible and the 10 commandments have not which to me is more proof that social value systems are not tied to christianity or any single religion. They are certainly influenced by various religions including Christianity but they are also impacted by leaders and philosophers (Confucius, Lincoln) so to call them only "Christian values" does a disservice to everyone else that has affected our society. mrmustang
Disclaimer: Ok, I'll add a little controversy to the thread, even though I rarely discuss such items on a public forum. 1: Are you certain that that they are "Christian" based values, and not the values of another religion older than Christianity? 2: You do realize Jesus was a Jew 3: To place a "Christian" label, as the only "civil" upbringing and way of life is not very Christian of you or anyone else as it shows a lack of tolerance for others. 3: :grouphug: Bill S. speedwagon
Disclaimer; " I am a heathen" With that said i respect "christian values" and where from or who created in of no concern if you just practice them. My personal guide line is " be considerate of others" that simple. Yes organized religion is responsible for many wrongs but so is nearly any organized group. Those who do not respond to peer pressure can claim responsibility for their own actions. It is my opinion that the effect good or bad upon the world resulting from various religions is neutral. bad-good=zero effect.
