“Lotus: The Art of Lightness” - Featured Exhibit at the AACA Museum 2015

January 24 – April 26, 2015

Lotus and the genius of Colin Chapman have been at the forefront of racing technology and automotive design since 1948. Colin Chapman’s philosophy of light weight and efficiency of design resulted in 7 Formula 1 World Championships as well as wins at Le Mans, and Indianapolis , saloon car racing and the World Rally Championship. Chapman’s mantras of simplification, light weight and the least amount of parts effectively deployed that went into his racing car design were directly translated into Lotus’ road cars and produced iconic machines such as the Seven, Elan, Esprit, and Elise. The rest of the automotive world are finally realizing that horsepower makes you fast in the straights, but light weight makes you faster everywhere – and more fuel efficient to boot!

For over 60 years Lotus has continued to produce class-leading sports cars and are a globally respected automotive engineering consultancy, working with many of the world’s most prestigious car manufacturers.

This exhibit will feature a variety of Lotus models throughout that 60 year history.

As of yesterday 320 tickets were sold for the reception. This should be a big event. More acceptance of Lotus in the AACA would be a great boost for restoration of older cars.

Some other Lotus folks and I caravanned up from Northern Virginia to Hershey, PA last Saturday, 3/14/15, to see the exhibit - Lotus: The Art of Lightness. It was foggy and rainy on the way up, but our group did fine. Our transport consisted of 2 Elises, an Exige, an Evora S, a Jaguar XJ, and a Volvo wagon!

This exhibit is well worth the drive, and the drive would be nice on a clear day. The exhibit runs thru April 26th. The museum also has some interesting antiques, and I was surprised to see several Tuckers on display there.

Here are some pictures I took, leading off (of course) with a Se7en...

Bob,

Thanks for the pictures! I really wanted to make this exhibit, but the schedule is too full.
