scannon Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 http://www.formulastudent.de/academy/pats-corner/advice-details/article/pats-final-corner-for-2010/ In 1976, Tony Rudd was the Chief engineer at the Lotus F1 team. Lotus were in the doldrums following a series of World Championship wins in the 1960s and founder Colin Chapman tasked Rudd with steering the team back to success. One of Rudd’s tactics was to write a series of ‘rules’ to be distributed to all staff at lotus. ------------- Some of you may already be familiar with this, I found it very interesting.
xflow7 Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Cool. "Keep Duckworth poor" gave me a laugh. Interesting to contemplate how some of those rules would have been morphed for today. Minimum torsional stiffness, for instance, is probably at least an order of magnitude higher for current F1 and Prototypes. Similarly for installation stiffness of the suspension, etc.
Paul Hill Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 Rule 30...... Any idea what "scent spray" was referring to?
ihckb2 Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 Scent is put into liquids to warn of leakage. Similar to what is done to Natural Gas to warn of a leak. Could be put into brake fluid to warn of a leak, which could mean disaster on a race car. Just my guess when I read it.
NVP66S Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 #12 says: "Avoid birdcage structures" I guess by that time, our sevens were pretty much obsolete.
