I know this is an old post, I was just revisiting it to see about tires for my 6" X 13" Panasport Comp wheels. Four plus years since the last comment. Does anyone have a suggestion for track day tires for this wheel set that will not be used on the road, I have a set of 6" x14" wheels for street use. Also, my race engine was completed a year ago, almost and it was more than satisfactory. Here are the specs from an engine dyno Caterham Race Engine 2016 Block: Ford OHV 2265E Kent AX Block Bore: 84 mm Stroke: 77.62 mm Capacity: 1721 cc Compression Ratio: 11.5:1 Maximum Power: 160 HP at 7,200 RPMs (At flywheel) Maximum Torque: 125 ft/lbs at 5,600 RPM’s Ignition Timing: 12 degrees B.T.D.C. at 1,200 RPMs OR 34 degrees B.T.D.C. at 4,000 RPM's Valve Clearance (Hot): .018” / .018” ( I / E ) Valve Clearance (Cold): .018” / .020” ( I / E ) Spark Plug Type: NGK BKR7E Spark Plug Gap: .030" Firing Order: 1-2-4-3 Fuel: 110 Octane (Shell Purple) Oil Type/Viscosity: Redline 40 wt Racing (10W-40) Oil Filter: MOBIL 1 (Part No. M1-301) Cylinder Head: Gas Flowed with Enlarged Ports Valves: Ivey, Oversize (Intake: 41mm, Exhaust: 35mm) Valve Springs: Ferrea (S10115) Heavy Duty, Duplex with Burton Hardened Retainers Camshaft: Kent A6 Rockers: Burton High Lift Roller Rockers (1.69-1) Pistons: CP Carillo Forged 84mm bore 11.5:1 CR Flywheel: Stock Lightened to 12lbs. and balanced Con Rods: Stock Ford lightened and Balanced 600 g (with bolt) ARP Bolts Crankshaft: SCAT SCCA Crankshaft Clutch: Helix Cover Helix 3 paddle clutch plate Throw Out bearing (Burton) Ignition: Distributor: Pertronix Flame Thrower Coil: Pertronix Flame Thrower II Valve Cover: Caterham Cast Alloy with 1700 Supersprint Script Lubrication: Titan 5 port Dry Sump Pump Six Quart Alloy Oil Tank Alloy Dry Sump Pan Remote Oil Filter Housing MOBIL 1 Oil Filter Intake Manifold Caterham Cast Alloy Matched to head and carbs Carburation: Twin Weber 45mm DCOE Air Filters: Weber three screen filters Header: Caterham Competition 4-1 Collector 2” Outlet Stainless Steel Muffler: Magnaflow

Still no leads on the suitable drive unit. Craig Chima's part was not the one...still looking. Thanks
-
Yes Eric, a snap ring that fits into a recess on the side of the T9 tail shaft. Tough to get to, use to need care with the right size pliers
-
Thanks Maurice, I sent an email to Burton sending the photos, looks like the one in the catalog takes another drive cable, Will see what they say

I broke the right angle speedometer drive last time I pulled the drivetrain. I tried JB Weld that lasted a mile so back to square one. Caterham UK does not have them. The drive was standard on my 1991 Caterham Super Sprint 1700 with the Ford T9 five speed transmission, the drive cable operated a VDO speedometer. If I am lucky, there will be two photos with this post, one shows the broken part separate from the drive, the other with both parts together.

James A. Thanks, this is very helpful, it looks like the same caliper, I will check to see it is the same.

I don't have a photo, car at another location, but Dave Beans is about a 45 min drive. Thanks for the tip

Hi Guys, After a significantly long period off track and after a significant engine power upgrade I am ready for a track day next month. My car is a 1991 Caterham Super Sprint 1700, it has stock front calipers, two pot. My question when ordering replacement brake pads, what do I tell the seller is the origin of the replacement pads? I have heard in the past that the front calipers were the same as a Spitfire but that is a hazy memory. Any suggestions on a suitable pad for track days and occasional street use? I see in other posts suggested pad upgrades to Porterfield and Carbotech, any suggestions Thanks john

Fitting 4-1 Comp Header in 1991 Caterham with Crossfow
O Racer replied to O Racer's topic in General Tech
Hi Dave, I received your PM and either send a reply 3 times or nothing...here's my message. My email address is in one of these prior posts, email me if you want photos Dave, I can never seem to remember how to post a photo, one time it works, otherwise nada, I have photos of 3 views of the alternator shield, which in fact came with my kit in 1991. Each photo has a ruler in it to judge size. I will try to load one otherwise I would be happy to email you them all. The alternator is also original, sorry the make/model spec not in hand IMG_1808.JPG -

Fitting 4-1 Comp Header in 1991 Caterham with Crossfow
O Racer replied to O Racer's topic in General Tech
Hi All, I am embarrassed to say it has taken this long to get this project done. I made so many changes it seems everything was improved or upgraded from when I built the car 25 years ago. I cut no corners in the project and I am totally pleased with the result. The engine was standard Caterham Super Sprint Crossflow Cortina now significantly upgraded. Engine Dyno results: 160HP at 7,200 RPMs, 125ft/lbs of Torque at 5,600 RPMs. The header was difficult to fit, no. 2 and 3 pipes needed a little concave indent with careful hammering made more difficult as the indent was where there was a pipe connection weld. The car was originally fitted with a 4-2-1 header so the opening in the side had to be opened up which was a challenge. The hole went from a circle to a parallelogram with rounded corners, I tried to keep it as small as possible. The header is from Caterham UK and is different from some earlier photos of 4-1 headers in this post I have yet to fit a muffler, I have a Magna Flow stainless muffler that will be fitted as a first attempt to make sound at Laguna which is 90db for my first track day with this new set up. I doubt that will be quiet enough so I plan to have a second system prepared with an oval muffler that will be used for Laguna only. Any tips on quieting a Cross Flow engine Seven much appreciated. Thanks for all your prior help and support. I will be at the GG Lotus Club track day 11/7 http://www.usa7s.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=11610&stc=1http://www.usa7s.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=11611&stc=1http://www.usa7s.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=11612&stc=1 -

WANTED: Right Angle Speedometer Drive Gear Ford T9 Trans.
O Racer replied to O Racer's topic in Parts For Sale / Wanted
The part I need is a classic pin drive speedometer drive that attaches to a recess on the passenger side of the transmission with a circlip, the other side accepts a speedometer cable that screws on to the drive at a right angle. I can email a photo Thanks John -
While pulling my engine and transmission by myself with a hoist that had a leaking cylinder (does this sound like a good idea), I broke off the speedometer drive gear. which has a right angle drive housing. It seems they are unavailable from Caterham UK, not sure where else to look. Car is a 1991 Caterham 1700 Super Sprint with the Ford T9 5 speed. Sorry cannot figure out how to add a photo on this site. I can send you a photo, email me at jgrosseto at iCloud dot com Thanks for your help or referral to another possible source John

I definitely want a set of four for my Caterham Seven, and tomorrow I will confirm another set for a friend Karl with a Series 2 Seven. Geoff will call you tomorrow to help arrange delivery as you discussed with him. One of the 3 sets may have to be shipped. Definite sale for Geoff and me, I will confirm sale of the third set to Karl tomorrow. John Grosseto Sonora, CA. jgrosseto at iCloud dot com

Muffler for C-7 with Race Spec Kent Crossflow Engine
O Racer replied to O Racer's topic in General Tech
Hi everyone and thanks for the input, somehow I missed the last few, I have been busy here. The engine was dynoed last week at Cal Dyno in San Carlos. It is a Cross flow from the Supersprint that has been built to semi race specs. The dyno figures were 160HP at 7,200 RPM, the power curve was from 150 to 160 HP from about 5,400 to 7,200 with good power to 7,500. If I can ever figure out how to get photos on this site I will send some. I have been focusing on exhaust noise but now realize my Webers are now my secondary concern I raced Laguna in the early 70's when there wasn't a home within miles, this sound thing pisses me off, you cannot imagine how much. Has anyone tried Burns mufflers, they make a two stage muffler, they seem to think it will work. Sound is my next step, I still have a few things to do before the engine gets installed so my search continues
