Looking for pictures of a Turbo Duratec
Wings Aviation replied to fastg's topic in General Sevens Discussion
Sorry, I don't think my reply was clear. You'll need a radiator to cool the intercooler liquid or you'll be fighting a very short battle. That sounds like a lot of boost, I'm running low comp forged pistons, I'd be surprised if at a full bar of boost you haven't got some serious turbo lag other turbo / light car issues. If I dialed up 14 psi we'd be pushing 400hp out of a not particularly desirable torque curve. There are a lot of optimistic numbers spread around particularly with turbo cars, be sure of what you're actually getting. Which caterham are you intending to put this motor in? -

The header tank is right there between the head and the intercooler, there is an electric pump in line , we are now running a stand alone ECU and I've moved the battery to the rear to free up a little space. System works really well, I'm only pushing 7 lbs of boost, I think if I got chance to drive the car more frequently I might run a touch more boost but as it is we are producing 320+ whp, which is plenty. -

It's a water intercooler, what is it that you're trying to figure out on the install? I could send you a picture. -
Coming Soon: 15" Caterham Track Wheel Package
Wings Aviation replied to BruceBe's topic in Wheels and Tires
Any update on the Caterham wheels yet? -
I'm finally sick of the ignition immobilizer on my 2008 R400, anyone who has one will understand my frustration. To that end does anyone have a wiring diagram for the Caterham ignition barrel and the immobilizer contained within? I intend to just replace it with a covered toggle switch. Thanks in advance.

Coming Soon: 15" Caterham Track Wheel Package
Wings Aviation replied to BruceBe's topic in Wheels and Tires
I'm very interested in a set. Any idea of a weight yet? -
Thanks, I'm already using a custom bespoke harness for my AEM ECU I just need a wiring diagram to make the new dash harness. There are some issues with the reference values that the Caterham gauges use (5v not 12v), I don't really want to change the gauges I like the look I have now and don't want to have to buy a new carbon dash.

Hi All, I'm trying to source a wiring diagram for my 2008 R400 specifically the gauges but any and all input is welcome. I'm building a complete new harness.

*chama supposed to read "Cams", friggin ipad.....

Ford in Daytona is selling a brand new 2.0 on ebay for knockout money. Buy it complete sell the head swap it for a 2.3 head, buy the bits and you'll have a brand new motor for great money.... Chama, pistons, dry sump and an intake will give you a great motor.

I'm thinking of putting a small Caterham (and the like) track and tuning day together. Track is just outside of Gainesville, will have space for six cars. Anyone interested send me a message and lets see if we can put something together.

I have a turbo setup on the Duratec in my R400; it can be done to great effect and the turbo lag issues aren't as apparent as you might think providing you have a good sensible tune on the car. The first setup is pretty costly but I bet we could duplicate it for a reasonable cost now all the R&D is done. Stand alone ECU is the way to go although it can be done with a standard ECU we did to start with, but for really precise tuning a stand alone is your best bet, in my opinion. I'm a supercharger guy, have had several on my jags and would have said they were my first choice but I wouldnt discount a turbo as a Caterham setup they've come along way since the 930's, with a good wheel sensor setup you can do alot of trick stuff if your tuner is good enough.... Just my two cents.

Haven't weighed before or after unfortunately. But, it's not hard to figure out turbo, dump valve, wastegate, inter cooler, tank with coolant and the plumbing. My guess is less than a tank of gas, would have been nice to have a beginning weight.....

Nice install. Do the new factory supercharged motors run an electric water pump? I need an accelerator pedal with about half as much travel as I have currently, anyone else swapped it out or fabricated a different fulcrum?

Hi Gherkin, that's 327 at the wheels (nothing else counts, lol). There's a bunch more in it, we have a very conservative tune and a lot of timing left in the engine. I'll get everything run in and then add a little more power, don't want to sacrifice the low end torque, we've actually got it a little better than the last dyno sheet I posted. As you probably have long since figured out having power in the Caterham is only half the problem, figuring out how to use it is a whole other issue. Going to run the car next weekend in a little hill climb and sprint for fun, should help get things run in and give me some good data to play with.
-
Gherkin, what ECU are you running? I see some injectors in your future....
-
Denso 7's for plugs.

I'm running a stand alone AEM ECU so we had to change out the coils to the 3 wire type, we went with a little more bank while were at it. I'll get you the plug specs and post it, just can't remember off the top of my head. I've lowered the compression slightly in an attempt to get as flat a torque curve as possible. Had a custom clutch made which has just gone in so have to be a little conservative on the boost for a couple of runs so I don't polish the top off it. Got any dyno sheets for the supercharged 2.0, I'm considering building a new Cat and would be interested in a super, I've had several supered road cars and I'm a big fan.

New 2.3L Duratec Cylinder Head for Sale
Wings Aviation replied to gpwerks's topic in Parts For Sale / Wanted
Hi Gents, how much for the head and the cams? -
Dyno sheet, this is with the old pistons. I'm happy with these numbers and this tune, it doesn't need anymore power and it's a pretty good curve.
-
2.0, Caterham 6 speed. I'd post one of the dyno sheets if I could figure out how to do it with my ipad?

150 miles away from the car for the next week so close up pics will have to wait. We dialed back the boost to 8 psi which was giving us just over 330 hp but gave us a really nice flat torque curve that was flat around 267 ft lbs coming on at about 3800 and staying flat to the high 6's. I'll post the next dyno sheet which should be the end of the week. She's having a piston change this week.... Still trying to get the Caterham tach and shift lights to talk to the AEM ECU, they don't seem to want to be friends right now. I'm probably going to make the battery to the rear, to free up a little space and smooth out the intake tube bends. The inter cooler pump is in line.

Had a new AEM ECU installed in my Turbo Superlight R400, looking forward to utilizing some of the programming options. Using a speed sensor we can set different boost levels in each gear which should help with traction. Now I'm looking for a spare gearbox to play with some ratios. Anyone else running a turbo Duratec?
