If you'd stop taking the engine out of your car every winter you'd be able to drive it in the summer.

Sorry, can't make it. Going to www.RevolutionMarch.com in Washington DC at 9:30. In the Seven!!! :7fume:

I have no experience with this, but I always wondered whether an oil cooler could be mounted on one of the footwells, preferably on the cooler intake side. Might act as a heat sink to reduce the cabin temperature?

Need advice - what kit is the easiest home build?
EburgE replied to twobone's topic in General Sevens Discussion
I built a Caterham at home this winter. If you are considering a Caterham kit, PM me and I will give you a call. Like you, I have very little prior knowledge of car work. I do not dispute any of the comments above. You can view my build at www.hals7.com. --Harold -
I know this is probably a day late and a dollar short, but mine is beneath the passenger's seat. The mount is riveted to the floor, and the ECU is velcro'd to the mount.http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1037282377_ECUMount2.JPG

The folks at MidAtlantic Caterham have agreed to sort through the alternator, in addition to some other open issues. Will report back. Thanks again!

Hey, thanks anyway. I decided to take the car to MidAtlantic Caterham this weekend and have them check it out. The inspection is part of the Caterham package, and they can probably look at the alternator/injector problems too. The engine builder also offered to fix the injector, although his guess is that an adjustment is required in the TWM injection system. On an even more positive note, I drive the car on a twenty mile trip this week. Loads of fun. No problems. First real drive ever!!!

Since Bob has been so enthusiastic about helping, maybe we should wait until June. I can hobble through the title/registration process in the mean time. Anyone else?

Checking here, is there anyone interested in driving to Eldersburg, MD on Saturday, May 31? 8:00-9:00 Drive to Harold's House. 9:00-Noon, troubleshoot Hal's alternator Noon-1:00, lunch on Hal at Plazuela's, Eldersburg's newest Mexican restaurant. 1:00 and beyond, hang out (troubleshoot injector), socialize (torque left rear axle nut), talk about cars (connect the Tachometer), drive around the area (watch for parts to fall off). :7fume:

What I know: 1. The alternator is definately charging the batter when the engine is running. The B+ (big wire) is connected from the alternator to the starter to the battery. 2. When not running, unless I disconnect the B+ wire, the alternator drains the battery within a day or two. 3. The alternator has another connector--a THREE-PIN connector. I believe the three pins are connected to: a. The battery via the ignition switch, i.e., the current is off when the key is off. Disconnecting this wire alone does NOT solve the drain problem. b. The alternator light on the Tach. (This, by the way, is always illuminated when the ignition is on.) c. The computer, i.e., the ECU which is a Pectel T2. These connections sound consistent with Bob's findings, two posts above. 4. The alternator is a Bosch unit for a 2004 Ford Focus; the wiring harness is from Caterham. The engine is a 2004 from a Focus. What I suspect: 1. The alternator could be the wrong model for the wiring harness. Caterham USA has not been able to provide a wiring diagram for the harness, nor can they tell me which year/model of Ford alternator the harness should use. 2. The alternator regulator (within the alternator) could be bad/damaged. Could this explain the drain on the battery? 3. The Pectel ECU could be set up wrong for the alternator? Not sure. My next plan of action is to test each wire separately on the three-pin connector to see which, if any, are causing the battery to drain. Any other ideas would be appreciated. --Hal

Let me begin by saying, especially to Bob, I have never been so touched by a post on the Internet: to think that somebody would post my problem on a site just so that I'd get a solution is beyond words. Actually, I have been disturbed for the past couple of weeks because I did not know where to turn with respect to the alternator questions. Okay, enough gooey. --Hal

Al, the only sad part of meeting everyone at Carlisle was knowing that you'd be Seven-less for awhile. You have an open invitation to come ride in mine anytime you need a fix. --Hal (Pondering whether to say "ride" or "drive".)

Sorry for not replying sooner. Thanks for everyone who lent a hand Saturday with my car. The Lotus crowd has always been a great bunch, and the USA7s gang continues in that same tradition. Dermot, let me assure you that the pleasure was all mine! To tow a Fisher Fury is a very rare occurence, considering how reliable British cars are!
