I did mine with a spray can and am happy with the results. I don't remember the brand I used though. For my money taking the fenders to a pro didn't make sense. Mike

$1000 to clear shield my nosecone & hood? Ouch!
breezy7 replied to Hank's topic in General Sevens Discussion
Seventweeks in the UK sells precut shields for paint protection. I didn't add up the cost but looks less than a $1000. Here is the link: http://seventweeks.co.uk/armafend.html -
Playing around on the Caterham UK site tonight and came across an owner's manual available for download. It is found under downloads in the "Technical" section of the site. I don't remember seeing this before, think I'll print a copy and put in my 7's glove box. Mike

Should be rear "lights" not "likes". Tried to edit but kept being told to log in and would not let me change. Something different with the new forum? Mike
-
It is a rear fog light and on my 06 Caterham is operated by the switch at the far right of the dash. It is designed to be brighter than the regular likes and is probably a requirement for registration in the UK. I left it off my car. Mike

Has anyone done a rebuild on a standard 2 piston Caterham caliper? I found one seeping fluid and not looking forward to spending close to $300 for a new one. Caterham UK does not have a repair kit and suggested I contact Redline Components, I'm waiting for a reply from them. I also have a message into Ben at Caterham USA and waiting for a response. Rocky Mountain Sportscar's site shows a rebuild kit but I'm not sure it applies to my caliper. Mike

Try posting to http://www.californiacaterhamclub.com ,many of the members seem to be in southern CA. Mike

Do a search for "3m Paint Shield". It is a clear plastic type material used for protecting paint. There are kits made for certain cars models but the stuff is usually available in bulk rolls as well. I would think the national parts chains would have something or try a local body supply shop. Mike

2 for LOG 29, my wife and I had planned on going to both events before the USA7 gathering changed location.

ATTENTION-MAJOR UPDATE FOR 2009 EVENT!!!
breezy7 replied to sparecr's topic in General Sevens Discussion
The track day event is at Barber. Friday May 28th is a trip to Talladega that includes laps on the speedway and tour of the musuem. The LOG 29 site has the registrarion forms available for those interested. -
I just read the December issue of Caterham Life, there are 3 pages concerning the Top Gear test of the R500. It can be downloaded at www.caterham.co.uk

Checked out the LOG 29 website this morning and the schedule of events, LOTS to do. I went to the musuem years ago and it was amazing, 4 or 5 floors of motorcycles and a few cars. From what I understand the number of Lotus cars has expanded quite a bit from my last visit. Having a vintage race the same weekend as the LOG is a great idea, the number of cool sportscars that come to a vintage event is unbelievable. How many club members are planning on attending? Count me in as 1. Mike

try this linkhttp://domestic1.sjc.ox.ac.uk/~jn/caterham-bbc4-documentary.mpg The show was called"Caterham- Survival of the Fastest" It was on BBC4 and pretty interesting stuff. The decision process dragged on forever and Reynard went out of business before anything was decided. I just tried the link, for some reason the cut and paste is not working. Try a google search for "Jarod's Caterham" and you will see the link. Mike

I was on the Caterham UK site yesterday and there was an announcement of Caterham USA launching a new website. There was a link in the announcement but it does not work. The address is www.caterham-usa.com but that drew a blank for me too. Any one been to the new USA site? Seems that now the USA and UK are using the same engines more Caterham models will be imported. I know the the Rocky Mountain Sportscars site had listed more models recently but I don't remember them making any announcement of the additions, the new models just showed up. Warning to Crossflow owners, the UK announcement says that Americans will now not be stuck with "antiquated engines".

What is the purpose of the nuetral switch? Is it to keep the starter from engaging with the transmission in gear? I don't think I have heard of one on a manual gearbox before.
-
That port is the speedometer drive output. The drive is round(an inch and a half or so)with a flat quill on one end and 6-8 inches of wire with a plastic connector on the other end. It is held in place by a C clip and connects to the wiring harness running at the top of the transmission tunnel. A plug fills the hole on the left side of the gearbox, I think the plug was in place when I got my gearbox from Caterham USA. I'm assuming that Caterham used the same set up for speedometers in your 1999 as they did for my 2006. It probably was a cable drive at one time but I don't know when the change to an elecrtic unit took place. You might want to look at fitting a filler for your gearbox before installation. I think there are a few suggestions in the General Tech section of the site

Here is what I have for mirrors on my Caterhamhttp://usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/784555289_IMG_2363.jpghttp://usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1056403101_IMG_2364.jpg They are motorcycle mirrors that I got for less than $30 delivered. I made a bracket out of angle aluminum from Home Depot that fits the wind deflector mount. I cut the angle aluminum stock in the V and folded the two sides over on themselves, drilled a hole for the mirror stalks with a nut on each side of the hole. When the doors go on the deflectors come off and I have the door mirrors to use. Its not 100% perfect, with the vibration the image in the mirror is blurred a bit. I am either going to get the Spa mirrors or try to find bike mirrors with a shorter or stouter stalk. The Spa mirrors can be mounted using just one of the holes in the bracket that holds the windshield. I tried to find part number for the mirrors and where I bought them but no luck, if you are interested I have the info somewhere. I used the site search feature looking for mirrors and came up with 30 pages, the mount that is on page 7 is especially slick. Talking of mirrors has anyone come up with a smaller mirror to fit the windshield? I talked to a Birkin owner at the LOG trackday who had a mirror that was half the size of what I have. He said it was from Yearwood and made for hot rods but I checked and can't find it on the Yearwood site. Are you also trying to get a louder noise for your turn signals? The beeper for my signals come out of the flasher unit and it is ANNOYING. It may be a simple swap to put a newer flasher unit in place of what you have now. It is either too loud or I'm not driving fast enough

28th Annual Lotus Owners Gathering (LOG 28) In Indy
breezy7 replied to Feffman's topic in National Events
Photos from the lap around the Speedway are on www.jwwphotos.com. Click on the car clubs tab. There are several pictures of all the cars as they crossed the yard of bricks, around 1300 total pictures so it takes a while if you are looking just for 7's. Pictures from the autocross and track day will be posted on the site also. I think the Lotus 7 that we saw at Walker Racing on Friday was the nicest of the event but he has pretty good help working on his car, much better then the guy who works on mine. -
28th Annual Lotus Owners Gathering (LOG 28) In Indy
breezy7 replied to Feffman's topic in National Events
Been quiet on the LOG front, am wondering how many 7s might be attending. Myself and one other Caterham are heading over on Thursday(Aug 31) afternoon and plan to be at the pre LOG cookout. -
I bought my cover 2 years ago from AJUSA. It is made by Covercraft and is said to be good for indoor and outdoor storage, but I haven't tried it outside so can't comment on how well it holds up to rain. It seems to let a fair amount of dust through but has saved me a few times from dinging the paint with a bike or lawnmower. The fit is a little sloppy for supposedly being a custom fit for a 7 but not terrible. Checked the AJUSA site and price is around $162 with free shipping.

You might try these 2 Ford Focus sites: www.focusfanatics.com or www.focaljet.com. I don't have any experience with them but both have Zetec forums. Good Luck.

Saw on the Lotus Talk site about a guy that sells coverage for track days. The price is 3% of the car's value with a 5% deductible. Here is the linkhttp://www.lotustalk.com/forums/f100/track-insurance-now-available-55236/#post1048378

My S3 cockpit is 37" wide and measures 62" from the firewall in the pedal box to the top of the rear bulkhead. The SV is 3" wider and 4.3".
