Sent him a text. Did not put two and two together with the Carlin name. Where's the facepalm imogi!
-
Is anyone familiar with what this BAT seller called a Carlin front spoiler? Seems like it may actually be functional. Air dam, splitter and canards all in one. Trouble is google seems to have never heard of it! Anyone know if these are available somewhere? Have any experience with them?

Effective wind deflector/buffeting reduction?
Cueball1 replied to Cueball1's topic in General Sevens Discussion
Good to know you find those helpful! Turns out my car is coming with a set of the birkin made windwings. Hopefully I find them an improvement too! Thank you for the pics. Once the car arrives and I find out exactly what I'm working with, I may ask for more pics at different angles. if they seem much different from what is with the car currently that is. Much appreciated! -
Etsy to the rescue! Maybe these would work? This seller has different styles available too if these aren't quite right. https://www.etsy.com/listing/1406209289/tinted-sun-visor-screens-for-classic Seller has sunvisors, wind wings and custom toggle switch name tags. Of course they are in the UK. Probably popular bits and bobs there. https://www.etsy.com/shop/ClassicGentShop?ref=l2-about-shopname&page=3#items

Effective wind deflector/buffeting reduction?
Cueball1 replied to Cueball1's topic in General Sevens Discussion
Just now saw Kitkat's post that the owner of my car has a set of traditional windwings. They weren't pictured or mentioned before by the owner. He does indeed have them and is packing them in the car for when the shipping company picks it up! At least it's a starting point. -

Front license plate required in Oregon
Cueball1 replied to Cueball1's topic in General Sevens Discussion
@MV8I had read that law too. Horrible rule. Will be interesting to see how the titling and registration process goes. As you can tell by that law the OR dmv isn't the easiest to deal with. Logic takes the day off when you walk in the building. -

Fia bar is at the top of the to do list once it arrives. Haven't heard back from birkinUSA about availability yet. May look at a local shop that does a lot of the custom scca cages around here if they're not readily available. -

Front license plate required in Oregon
Cueball1 replied to Cueball1's topic in General Sevens Discussion
@panamericanogood idea. Will definitely ask some. Will also ask at the dmv. OR Laws list some exceptions for requiring front plates. Sevens don't exactly fit those rules but with the limited area in the front maybe I'll get lucky. -
Front license plate required in Oregon
Cueball1 replied to Cueball1's topic in General Sevens Discussion
@Crocwill have to try something similar. Not having the car yet I didn't know if there was anything under the nose sturdy enough to fasten diy brackets to. On my miata I used to use a hinged bracket at the top opening of the mouth. This allowed the plate to swing backward at speed and not block airflow. I was pulled over on the freeway with that. Cop says "there's no front plate" i said "yes there is, look". Walked to the front and shook her head. "I swore there was no plate there". Once she figured it out? Said to change it asap or she'd ticket me next time. I created a bracket that held it offset from the mouth after that. Tried putting my plate in the front windshield for a while. Got a ticket for that, while parked! Parking enforcement is authorized to give out tickets for vehicle violations. Oregon is way too uptight about front plates! -
I'm finding it difficult to find pics of 7s with North American style front license plates. Others here must be in some states requiring them. How and where are you mounting them? Would love to see your solutions!

Effective wind deflector/buffeting reduction?
Cueball1 replied to Cueball1's topic in General Sevens Discussion
MV8, i did that exact thing in my Miata. Helped a great deal. Will definitely try it. Kayentaskier, I'm not interested at all in throwing on a helmet every time i jump in the car! -
Effective wind deflector/buffeting reduction?

@JohnCh thank you! With all the complaints I'm seeing in 7 forums I'm surprised I don't see more things like this. Will definitely experiment with something like this. In talking with Brunton they said that's a big part of designing their tapered rear fenders on the m-spec design. He claims that 90 angle of the rear fender plays a big part in the buffeting. May experiment there too. Of course all this is just planning ahead. Likely won't see my new to me Birkin for another couple weeks. May not be as bothersome as I'm anticipating it to be. -
I recently saw a car for sale but cannot find it again. 😑 Owner had developed a sort of v shaped acrylic wind deflector. In the discussion of it he mentioned he tried several different variations. He finally landed on a long v from the top of the windscreen following it down then swooping at an angle backwards after reaching the body. Said this long version was much more effective. He even had a name for it which I've forgotten. In selling the car he mentioned they would not be included for liability reasons. Anyone have experience with something this? Any other effective methods found for decreasing wind and pressure in cabin and increasing comfort? Edit: found it! He called the Vaccaro wings. anyone have any experience with something like this? Ugly but if effective...

SuperlightR has low miles. Not the original builder, he doesn't seem to know much. Hard to know from pics but the zetec engine looks very civilized. Unknown spec on the engine. Car is no doubt a good buy and unfortunately likely won't last long enough for me to get serious about it. Had to show up just as I'm trying to finalize a deal on that Birkin. Timing stinks for this popping up! Negatives, unknown build quality and engine spec. Plusses, wouldn't have the seat/roll bar change the birkin may need plus it has a top and doors the birkin lacks. Ugh. Color me confused -

Negotiating on the car. 🤞🤞🤞 Really interested in that rear end mod! Will likely be in the market for seats and/or fia type roll bar when this hopefully ends up in my garage. -

Interesting that you sit so high in it. The seat backs and headrests look typical. Seat cushion raised somehow? Are the seats on sliders or fixed? Asking top dollar yet lacking weather gear and with the seats and/or roll bar issue it seems it needs some money spent on it. Previous owner was on this forum. He attended several of the track get togethers. Here's a pic from a get together in Daytona. -

I have a turbo'd early miata i used to track a great deal. Lots of wheels and tires on hand though some of the tires are likely out of date now. Nice that they are likely to fit. -

@Bruce K thank you! Your replies are incredibly thoughful and thorough. Kitkat is looking at the car friday morning. I'm looking forward to his report. Hopefully he knows some of the tricks of the trade you are suggesting to access mechanical condition. Pretty car. First owner was an older track rat. After engine rebuild, repaint and interior work it's been a weekend cruiser. -

@KitcatKitkat, tried to pm you the sellers phone number but i get a message saying you cannot recieve messages. So here it is for everyone to see 😉 What an amazing offer. Having a knowledgeable guy like you look at the car would be invaluable. +1 513-289-7120 and his name is Gerald. Price wise he seeems to be asking top money for a Birkin. 9k mile car that has had the motor rebuilt, body repainted and the interior redone. All that is a little concerning and maybe telling on how it was treated by the original owner. If this happens and you can meet, it might be too much to ask, but if you can get a feel for how firm he is on price? Would be a big help. I'm in Oregon. Checking with a shipper I've used for cost to ship. -

Owner replied and had a bunch of pages of info from the original owner. Toyota solid rear end with a 5 link. Is this typical in a birkin? Was built originally largely for track use. Had several sets of wheels including 13" with Hoosiers, a kirkey seat and other track oriented decisions made in the build. Tracsport gears in a merkur tranny. Engine was rebuilt a few years ago prior to current ownership. Paint is newer. Has the widetrack front end. Fuel cell was rebuilt at some point. Any red flags or solid positives in there? Of course the new 15k wcm s2k listed is gone already! That was quick. -
