  1. The fast knowledgeable turbo Miata guys running time attack and super Miata racing really stress the idea that wheel width needs to match tire width for a racing tire to work optimally. I imagine that 205 on a 6" rim may have impacted the front tires ability to do their job.
  2. @Anthony if you are serious about that car you might let everyone know it's location. Might just be a member here that lives near by. I got lucky that way with my Birkin I bought last fall. Craigslist ad half the country away from me but one of the incredibly knowledgeable and helpful regulars here lived close by!
  3. And now that I had pretty much decided the Toyo RR was the tire to try (lightweight, soft sidewall, durable for lots of heat cycles) toyo just announced it's being replaced by the Toyo R. Lots of hoopla over the new compound and carcass being improved. Of course it's heavier and has a stiffer sidewall. They seem to have mainstreamed it for heavier cars. 😑🤬
  4. I'll be trying too. Too much unpredictable stuff in my life these days. If enough of us try I'm sure a few might actually get there!
  5. The grassroots tire tests are interesting and hugely informative. I do wonder if the substantially lighter carcass of the RR vs the AR1 and R888 will make it a better tire for our featherweight cars. Was really hoping for an opinion from someone here who had tried the RR before I pull the trigger on them.
  6. These folks show the 13" RR for sale. I don't see the 13 on other race tire sites. https://rcomptires.com/proxes-rr/ Not entirely sure about running a square set up on my car. The car should be in the 360-370bhp/ton range. Will likely run square this first season and see how it goes. (Welcome to thead drift 😉)
  7. Newb mistake! Sorry. I'll be running 15s to start since I have lots of 15" wheels already. Will see how that goes and consider the move to 13s in the future. Hopefully you smart folks and the tire mfg's have a good 13" solution then. Not in the same class as hoosier by a long shot but well liked for track days on heavier cars is the Nankang AR1. Available in 13s. Have folks here tried them on our cars?
  8. Has anyone tried the toyo RR? It's a substantially lighter carcass than the r888. It is being replaced by the new R model with an updated compound. The turbo Miata guys seem to like the RR tires and praise their consistency and longevity. Hopefully the new R is better still.
  9. Shame you didn't go ahead with making it streetable. Seems you would have increased your potential market by a vast amount. I wonder if one of the race car marketing sites might get you more eyeballs looking for a track/autoX only car? Hopefully BAT comes through for you though!
  10. The Colorado Birkin on Facebook looks like a heck of a deal. Unfortunately the owner has not responded to multiple inquiries over several days.
  11. Cars and Coffee in Tualatin OR has a british day coming up June 29th. Might be fun if we have any local members to show up! https://portlandcarsandcoffee.com/calendar/
  12. Awd!?! What an amazing piece of engineering. Would love to learn more.
  13. Maybe it's just me then.
  14. Bought my s3 Birkin 6 months ago at 58. The biggest drawback I see to road trips besides the buffeting is the lack of space in the footwell. Your feet are pretty much straight ahead of you and there is no room to change position. I've found it can be painful and wearing on drives more than 20-30 minutes. Body isn't used to the constriction and position.
  15. It's a design that predates the 7. Wouldn't be hard to imagine it was possibly inspiration for the lotus design. One of 6 "continuation" builds by the son of the original manufacturer. Like it or not it's an interesting story and a car with a lengthy racing history.
  16. They are genuine Girling remote reservior units. The girling part number looks to be 64067620. Took one off and disassembled. Bore and piston looked good. I think it's just deterioration of the 20 year old rubber gaskets. Have the parts to rebuild in hand. Fingers crossed it works! Same unit as this... https://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/p/girling-master-cylinder-remote-3-4-inch-bore-64067620-gmc-12-r
  17. Not a 7 but not too far off.... https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1953-kurtis-500s-continuation/
  18. George Hillards old Birkin has a Girling .75 master cylinder leaking. I've disassembled it and the bore looks clear and unmarked. I am planning to rebuild it. The question is... This car has 3 of these same units. Front brakes, rear brakes and clutch. The car has only 8k miles but is right at 20 years old. Should I go ahead and rebuild the other two that are still good, figuring it was maybe age that caused the failure? Or would I be making unnecessary work for myself?
  19. Now to fashion brackets and find something to line the openings to keep racing shoulder belts from rubbing against bare metal.
  20. Got the seat. Took the vacuum to it and it cleaned up great. Thank you @D_Mac!
  21. Besides not knowing what damage there is under the car, I wonder how long this has been sitting out in the weather uncovered. Exactly how much rain has fallen in Sacramento this winter? 😱 Or would they have moved it inside?
  22. The copart Birkin sale closes tomorrow! I checked it a few days ago and there was still no closing date. Advertise it for months then only put it up for bid for a few days with no warning. Odd way to do business. https://www.copart.com/lot/79700493/2010-lotus-coupe-ca-sacramento
  23. Bummer the car didn't live up to the advertisement. Hope it becomes the car you're wanting it to be soon! I feel I got very lucky buying mine off craigslist. Needs some misc things done to get it to my expectations but not really due to any shortcomings. 🤞 Just making it fit my useage.
  24. Sorry the other person didn't work out but happy for me! Will pm my information. Let me know how much on shipping and how to get you the money. I enjoyed watching this car on BAT. Impressive vehicle. Interesting watching you take it from track beast to fast road car.
  25. Palatov D2. Kit form 138k. Factory complete 222k! Makes Brunton look like a bargain.
