While off-camera he rotates the left arm. Look at time stamps 1:09 and 1:15 at the position of his left elbow. At 1:09 it is obviously rotated in, at 1:15 it is obviously rotated out and bent. I didn't even think this was a trick because it was so obvious that his arms were re-arranged.

That is from a movie, no idea what it was called but I used to be able to do that card trick. A friend taught me and it really isn't that complicated. Shuffling the deck is set so the cards mix just right and cutting the deck is predictable. I haven't done it in 15 years though.

Are you an officer? Paramedic?

That is what I was thinking, if traffic was that bad where i lived, I'd probably go insane and ride that like that too.

The oil pan on that setup has got to be almost touching the ground.

I can't wait to explain this to my 5 year old... In a few years when she no longer believes in him.

As west texas said, its drawer slides, a long threaded rod with a knob, and a couple welded bolts. A couple of the cars have electronic linear actuators so drivers can swap out quickly.

I bought a Dyson, but gave it to myself...

That was my take on it as well. You can see him braking, look to the right, start his turn and realize he wasn't likely going to make it, go back left and miss the trees. It was a quick decision and if I was him I wouldn't regret going that way. The first guy was definitely cold tires and I'm curious about steering issues as well. You can see him turn right, and continue to turn the wheel but the right front tire doesn't seem to continue to turn. It might be an illusion from the angle of the fender but it looked like he might have had something setup incorrectly and couldn't get all this turning ability. He would have hit the tires either way though. He did make one good decision and that was to pull his thumbs back out of the wheel. When he clipped the tires it spun the wheel violently left and could have hurt himself more if he was trying to hold onto it still.

I'm considering buying an older 1020 series AEM from Chuck. Anyone know if it would be work with the tunes you guys are using (if someone is willing to share)? Getting my car to a qualified tuner won't be an easy proposition but tweaking a known tune might be possible.

Hey Eddie, thanks for joining the group and sharing. I saw you at AtomFest 2007 @ Hallett and was going to come say hi but you were loading up and looked like you were in a hurry to get on the road. I was able to ride in an Atom while there and they are definitely a lot of fun. The one I road in was street tired and wasn't turning very fast laps, and definitely no where near 1:19.. WOW!! That is fast. I've had my S/C'd M3 and my Mini Cooper both up there and was somewhere in the 1:30's with both. I didn't have a transponder for the Mini but it felt like I was getting closer to the high 1:20's after some instruction. Where did you fly the shuttle simulator? I was fortunate enough to get to go to Space Camp in Huntsville, AL when I was a kid and got to fly the simulator there. We trained all week and did a big simulation run of the entire mission over a period of a few hours. I was the Mission Commander. Probably guess that means I was the biggest nerd on my team. On a side note, I remember very distinctly watching late night drag racing (on TV) and saw you run the first 4.9. I was pretty young but knew I had just witnessed automotive history. Congrats and keep it up.

What kinds of workshops do you all inhabit?

Looking at the engine layout and chassis design/welding I immediately thought, "that looks like kimini." I talked to Kurt about buying kimini when he was selling and got close but he needed more out of it than I could stretch to. I am very interested to watch his new project. He is definitely a very talented and skilled builder. -
I had the pleasure of attending AtomFest in 2007 (or maybe 2008) at Hallett in Oklahoma. There were about 75 atoms in attendance and they did rides for anyone interested. I hoped for one of the prepped cars but you got in line and when it was your turn, the next car that showed up was your ride. Mine had some pretty relaxed street tires and he wasn't pushing it very hard so we were one of the slower cars on the track. That said, it was a very impressive ride. The car felt very planted and easily controllable (at the level we were driving at). I didn't own my 7 at the time so comparisons are based on memory. It was much "cooler" than the 7, with the motor in the back you get very little engine heat bothering you. There was quite a lot of foot/leg room, it felt much like a dune buggy. The dash bar felt very low and a little awkward. I've heard of issues with the front wheel bearings not holding up to spirited driving but they have most likely fixed that by now. They are definitely very aggressive looking and I'm a huge fan of the design. If I could have bought one for similar $ to the cost of my 7, I would own one now instead. They are quite a lot more expensive though. I've seen them dipping into the very high 30's once or twice but they tend to stay closer to the 50's on the used market for one with a reasonable power plant.

This sparked my interest so I did some searching. The one you found is actually upside down: http://johnprolly.blogspot.com/2007/04/revision-cloud.html Much worse instance: http://www.yle.fi/uutiset/news/2009/11/metro_flood_caused_by_colossal_drilling_error_1154134.html

I think it is an interesting idea but wanted to warn of possible issues with the gas tank. If the transaxle is very tall you'll have a lot of engineering to get a decent sized tank to fit around it.

As long as the data is only used to determine fault in a motor vehicle accident, I'm ok with it. Tire marks and intuition are not reliable means to determine who caused an accident. If I was driving too fast, changed lanes without giving proper clearance, etc, then I should be held at fault, as long as the other car didn't do something as well.

How often should you change the air in tires?

I find hydrogen works really well. The reduced unsprung weight shaves at least a second off my quarter mile times. -
Anyone seen 3 Kings? Maybe its the real life version of George Clooney.

They suggest using it on blind dates. Hopefully the wearer doesn't get blitzed and invite the guy back to her place, where she forgets she is wearing it... Oh the horror

You can hear that it was metal. If you look closely you can see where it lands about 10 ft in front of him and bounces back up.

I love that... "Me and Jensen agreed on that..."

Wow, what an awesome place that would be to visit.

I don't know about Don Garlits, but Eddie Hill is an Ariel owner: http://www.arielatom.com/newsflash/eddie-hill-joins-the-ariel-atom-team. I saw him at Hallett when they hosted Atom Fest in '07 or '08.
