  9. I passengered in one up here in Ontario. Holy light-speed batman. The only car that ever truly scared me with the acceleration. It felt like jumping to hyperspeed. Maybe some day I will do the conversion. It was also too rich for me. I try to keep my toys under $25K. Skip so gald to hear that Lava car went to someone I know. I will love to read about it in the years to come.
  10. thanks Andy. I know my turbo MX-5 will not be an equal substitute, but I feel like there are times when it will feel like the right decision. 200HP in 2650 lbs Colin Chapman was a genius and I will miss experiencing all the car has to offer. On the plus side, I will end up driving my turbo MX-5 every day there is no salt on the roads up here as opposed to the handful of days I managed to get out in the Caterham. I will try to weasel my way into some local lotus club runs if they let me in
  11. car is sold. I will encourage the new local owner to join usa7s. Thanks guys
  12. Asking price updated.
  13. Auction ends in 6 hours http://bringatrailer.com/listing/1990-caterham-super-seven/
  14. My factory caterham is for sale on bringatrailer. Why Birkin not Caterham?
  15. I figured, why not give it a shot. It seems to be a great site. I'm sure it will be an experience!
  16. thanks Andy, I know, I will miss the full ownership experience. Its just time for a change.
  17. You may notice a couple of discrepancies. The build sheet says DeDion axle, the car has a Morris Ital live axle (which was an option for that car). It also says black fenders. The car has Green fenders. Everything else is the same (engine, gearbox, etc.) I spoke to Caterham and they confirmed that 0856 is a unique numbering sequence and so at some stage the build must have changed before the VIN plate was stamped. They don't have a more recent build record on microfiche. STF_11102014_092227.PDF
  18. Some folks have asked about original build info. I've attached copies of the letters I have. You could argue that the car is actually a 1989 based on this paperwork. STF_11102014_092142.PDF

  20. After much thought, I've decided to move on to another motoring adventure (Turbo Miata). Here is an opportunity for someone else to enjoy the seven experience. In my last 4 years of ownership, I have worked hard to create the best balance of tourer and back road carver. She is as comfortable as a seven can be in terms of reduced wind buffeting, vibration and heat mitigation. I have covered the transmission tunnel and under the dash, under the seats and behind the seats in sound and vibration insulation. It dramatically reduced the heat soak and the harmonic vibrations. Car is for sale $20,000 USD or best reasonable offer 1990 Caterham Seven Supersprint (Kit shipped in 89') Factory 1700 Crossflow Kent Dual Weber DCOE 40 Dry sump oil system with oil cooler 4 speed Ital axle - live axle 36,233 miles Aluminium with Green clamshell wings Quiet Rover side exhaust fitted - original side exhaust comes with the car Distributor replaced with a custom curved Aldon unit from the UK Motormounts replaced with solid units Tyres are from the UK 185/60/13 Yokohama A539 - 2 years old Interior: S-type seats on sliders Full carpet kit Mirrors for Seven mirror Tach with programmable shift light on dash. I have is set for around 6,000rpm to ensure longevity (to be honest, I rarely hit that because its bloody fast enough at 5,000rpm) 12V GPS socket wired in Shcroth Harnesses Full heater Full weather kit Half doors Wind deflectors Behind the seats mesh wind blocker Full tonneau cover Hood bag Car runs great. The 6,000 miles I have put on her in the last 4 years have included 3 trips to the Watkins Glen Historic festival which is a 1,000 km round trip weekend. She has never left me stranded. This car makes you an instant celebrity. For folks in the Greater Toronto area where I live, please note when I purchased the car 4 years ago from a local Lotus dealer (see copy of the original add)(http://www.gentrylane.com/s/import-inventory/sold-import/1990-caterham-super-7-sprint) they were able to get it to pass the emissions testing process by detuning the carbs significantly. I'm not a mechanic and so I've not been able to replicate that. I have paper work from the Caterham factory that may enable someone with more time than me to work with the MTO office and register their purchase as a "kit car" thereby rendering the car etest exempt. Alternatively, you could try mounting a cat. This is only an issue in my local area due to Ontario govt restrictions on cars registered as 88' or newer. Car has been all around the world. It started in the UK, and came to Canada via Japan In car video from my car ( ) Article from local motor journalist that goes with the video: (http://www.theglobeandmail.com/globe-drive/culture/commuting/the-joy-of-going-topless/article4217106/)
  21. I used to take my car to an older gentleman in Mississauga/Oakville. He passed away. His remaining shop guy now works for Aktive Motors. I wouldn't say he is a Lotus expert, but he knows his way around british cars. http://aktivemotors.ca/
  22. This was the kind I bought I beleive.....closer to $400-$500 http://www.hmsmotorsport.com/store/schroth-competition-belts/profi-asm/profi-ii-asm
  23. I bought them directly from the factory: Schroth belts Model: Profi ASM 4 point They have a patented approach to energy release in an accident which is suppossed to make a major difference in injury. Make sure you get the correct seat side as the belt energy release system only exists on one of the two shoulder belts. I managed to loop the shoulder harness belts thru the existing harness loops at the top behind the seats. The lap belt anchor bolts threaded into the existing mount holes in my chassis. I really like the twisting release mechanism. Its easy to use http://www.schrothracing.com
  24. Good luck Andy!
