RHD has not bothered me and in fact it adds to the uniqueness of the ownership experience (something else folks ask about). On the 4 speed vs 5 speed, I would check to make sure the final gearing is higher on a 5 speed. If its not then you are not gaining much in my mind. In terms of live axle vs Dedion. I can't tell you which is better. I only know live axle. The one think to consider is depending on the axle your wheel choices are limited. My Ital axle has a strange PCD so its tough to upgrade my wheels if I wanted to. In terms of LSD, I think that only becomes really important when you have more than 165 HP. Lastly, finding a local car helps you avoid the registration nightmare that can happen if you are not careful. I hear the car at Gentry Lane is ~

http://www.wirewheel.com/1991-Lotus-Elan-For-Sale.html Only $8000 for such a sweet handling car. I know for many it is a abomination, but it sure would make lots of people scratch their heads asking what it is.

Andy's twin cam is a fruity little ripper. Hope the day goes well!

That is the 1st intelligent thing spoken by any Ontario politician in years!

Have you seen what is happening with classic car values? Mid 80s Porsche 911 that would have gone for $17-24K just 4-5 years ago are now getting listed for $35-45K The high end the scale (classic race cars & ferraris) is also going bananas again. Will the seven brand get caught up in this inflation? I don't have any intention to sell, its just interesting to ask why we are not also riding the wave. I'm actually OK with staying off the speculative car market bandwagon. It keeps the cars within a community of folks who like to wrench and drive them.

Fingers crossed that it gets sorted. -
Fantastic photo! Reminds me of a picture of wheel to wheel 1950s F2 racing

With the season starting up soon, I hope to try out my latest find....Bose sound deadening ear buds. I have been using every possible permutation of earplugs over the last 2 years to make long distance touring more comfortable. I find I have ringing ears that lasts for days after a full day or multi-day tour. I recently picked up a set of Bose sound cancelling ear buds and they work amazing at reducing loud droning noises, while still allowing me to hear sirens and other critical sounds. Of course, if they turn out to be too strong and it seems like I am endangering myself or others, I will go back to ear plugs. For folks who struggle with ringing ears I thought I would share my idea. In terms of local legality: The Ontario Highway Traffic Act doesn’t specifically prohibit the use of headphones while driving, but it does require motorists to pull over for approaching police, fire and ambulance vehicles. If you are interested - check your local jurisdiction: http://drivinglaws.aaa.com/laws/headsets/

Andy, way to kick off another good year. Any interest in a trip to watkins glen in early Sept for the annual historic races? Just planting the seed while you are thinking about the season ahead. I plan on heading down in my seven with Brian who brought his Cobra to the club fall run

I'm getting a 2014 mini cooper for my wife (and me) The turbo 3 looks like fun I'm thinking of going with the base wheel and tire option. It seems to me folks these days always go for large diameter wheels. With the rough roads around here and the stiff set up on the mini I'm thinking the higher aspect with smooth out the ride. Also my wife is bound to scuff up a set of wide alloy rims. Lastly I hear the handling of the base mini used to be sweeter with the smaller tire Thoughts?

45 - had her for 4 years. Was introduced to the Seven idea back around the mid 90s when I started going to brit events in an MGB. Can't envision ever selling her. Any discussion of other sportscars by the Mrs.is always clarified by me as an add-to, not a swap.

I like it!

Thanks andy. I'm looking for the distance between each carb centre, perhaps measured at the top of the carb spin on cover . I have weber dcoe 40 carbs. I suspect you do too.
-
Hi Andy, Its Mike from Port Credit in the aluminium and green Seven. Great to have you on the forum.
-
Is the carb measurements and layout the same between a twin cam and a crossflow? I'm thinking of modifying a lotus elan or seven series 4 airbox to fit my seven and am curious if the carb backplate will fit.

I had the similar experiences with my super sprint last spring. I had put gas stabilizer in the tank over the winter. Perhaps I put to much in? Anyways, until I had run a tank or two thru, she ran like a pig. As a second check, after you have run thru with clean gas, check your float bowl hights. Good luck!!

That's why I'm so happy to see the creation of the caterham 160. A return to lightness. With porsche it is driven by profit motive. Large option loaded cars = massive profit margin. I met a guy who bragged about his $120,000 fully loaded boxter. Great car but stupid guy. Think how many great classic cars you could put in your garage for 120 large!?!

After a long FAST road trip with the local Lotus club I noticed that at a stop the transmission is very hard to get into gear. Once rolling the transmission shifts fairly well. Is it most likely that my clutch is on the way out or perhaps my clutch cable has stretched or slipped a bit? Is that something that can be addressed in the interim with a clutch cable adjustment? If yes, is that a complex job? My thoughts are that once under way the synchros are making up for any poor clutch engagement. I have not noticed any unusual clunks or vibrations (no worse than usual) which might lead me to worry about gear box mounts or other out of alignment issues. Thanks for listening

Where do you rest your left foot?

I have the same problem. Slipping it under the clutch doesn't work that well for me on my caterham. I find I just have to have it hover over the clutch pedal -
I'm not sure if you have a carpetted tunnel, but I put "B-quiet" heat and vibration insulation under caterham carpet and it made a difference

Anyone going to the Watkins Glen Vintage Fest Sept 6-8?
twobone replied to twobone's topic in General Sevens Discussion
If you are in the north east, you have to go next year!!! It is a car guy wet dream My xflow caterham ran strong and true for just under 1000 km this weekend. Until the headlight switch crapped out at 9:00pm somewhere in upper NY state. Fixed her with a 1 inch length of household wire. Try that with a Lexus! -
My headlight switch burned out in the middle of the night. Yikes! Its one of those multi-prong female white plastic plugs. Anyways, I had noticed that when replacing the last switch, there was some corrosion in the plug. I tried to clean it up, but obviously that did not work. Do I have to replace the entire female plug or can I just replace the damaged female pin insert? I'd prefer not to splice something that takes so much current and sits above my right knee.
