The dealer is having trouble getting a clean air done here in Ontario

The dealer is telling me that the car is having trouble passing smog tests. They are going to try to lean out the webers, but we may need a plan B Question: Do you think they can just remove the exhaust after the 4 into 1 collector, remove the heat sheild and attach a small catalytic converter before the muffler? Will that likely get me thru a smog test? Advice please. If that does work, should I have them fab up a complete CAT and exhaust system from the 4 into 1 collector back that I just swap in and back out to pass smog every 2 years. That way it does not effect the stock exhaust system? I would only do this if experience with crossflows is that the addition of a CAT really hurts performance or sound

Coming from the Porsche community, there was a love affair with bigger tires. I was running 245 on the rear and 205 on the front of my 911. It had so much grip that slippage was never found unless on the track. What is the norm for 7s? Is the approach to keep the standard wheel and tire set ups to maintain the toss-ability of the cars and promote a bit of tail out fun? I just want to make sure I don't do anything stupid in terms of upgrade fever and end up losing some of that critical feel and delicacy I'm expecting from my 7 P.S. sorry for all the questions...I'm just so excited about getting my hands on a 7!

First level of upgrade...switching from clamshells to cycle wings. Any one done this? A yellow band around the leading edge of the nose cone would complete the package Also, I want to make sure the brakes are up to the task of spirited driving. Nothing radical, but maybe, just check the rotors, replace the pads if necessary and do a brake fluid flush if necessary as well.

OK, found pics on the internet....YES I'm dry sumped. Very cool. Now what. How do I manage my oil level to make sure I have enough dead dinosaurs to keep the hard parts from sticking together? Is there a level in the tank to monitor?

So I'm looking over the car at the dealership and searching everwhere for the dip stick on my Ford crossflow 1700. I was also looking at the sump on the hoist and noticed that it does not have a deep sump. Is that large aluminium tank an oil tank? My first impression was that it was the radiator overflow. If its for the radiator, then where the heck is the dip stick? (OK, no jokes about looking in the mirror!)

My tach does not have a redline. Its an electronic tach as the car looks like its been converted to electronic ignition. On a stock crossflow, whats a safe redline? Given the loudness of the engine, I don't want to chicken out when more revs are actually available without dropping a conrod. Thanks

I usually live to regret this, but once in a while I get a custom plate for my cars. Given the obsurity of a Caterham in Canada and the fun factor of the car it might be fun to get some kind of custom plate. Its a British Racing Green 1990 Caterham Sprint Ideas? "TYPE 49" I've always liked that race car "SUPER7" "CATERHM"

Hi, I'm acquiring a stock solid axle cross flow 4 speed Caterham. How hard can I push my car? I'm used to a 84' 911 which is over engineered and designed for aggressive driving including track use. Am I safe to really throw my car around (within reason)? I'm thinking that the light weight of a Caterham translates into lower stress on suspension, drivetrain and brakes. Just looking for perspectives for a newbie.

Looks like all is a go. Signed the purchase agreement and now just wanting for emissions test. If I was 15 minutes later to the dealer (got there right at opening) the car would have been sold out from under me. There was a very grumpy european guy and his buddy waiting in the parking lot. I just hope the dealer does not try to pull a fast one on me. The dealer was surprised I did not try to flip it for a quick $2000....but this car is too special to me now. More pics once its on the road. Car was recently imported from Japan. Looks nice and clean. Looking forward to chatting sharing stories with you guys

all indications are yes. Dealer has taken it off the market and I'm going to be there when they open in the morning. Looks like we have a deal. Paying about $2K more than I want to but thats life.

I'm going to ink the deal tomorrow morning. My wife has already expressed her deep misgivings. She thinks I have car Hobby ADD. I just bought my 911 2 years ago and have professed my undying love for Porsche ever since. However, nothing compares to a super 7. If only she understood. Tonight should be a tough one. With any luck I will look back on this as one of the best things I ever did

I test drove the car I want to buy (1990 Caterham 30,000 miles - 1700 crossflow -Webers - 4 speed - solid axle ) and all seems nice and tight. Engine idles nicely once warm and revs with gusto. Tranny shifts well and clutch is fine. Brakes are a bit spongy, but my reference point is a 911. All the visible areas of the frame and suspension components appear clean and rust free. Engine bay is clean and all pipes look solid. Did not do a full electrical component check, but will do before I buy. No clunks in the suspension. Fiberglass is not cracked. Overall car looks well cared for. Car will have to pass safety and smog by the seller. I will check for broken rivets. Any other areas I should poke around in?

Hey Oyagi! I live in Mississauga and am about to pull the trigger on the 90' Caterham in the for sale. I just have to convince the MRS. tonight. Any buyers regrets? I'm going to have to sell my pristine 84' 911 coupe to do it so I really need to be sure about this. My gut says go for it. There are a tons of 80s Porsches floating around, but getting a super 7 in canada is really tough! Words of encouragement please

Is $23K USD a fair price for this spec?

I don't have any real automotive/engineering skill set....but have an interest in learning. If I wanted to build a Seven kit, which one is designed from the bottom up to be the most "idiot proof"? In my mind this translates into a combination of excellent instructions, all in the box components & close to zero fabrication requirements.
