  1. actually thats what i didnt want to do. i want the detector to turn on and off with the ignition so im going to have to tap it off of something that does that
  2. thanks i guess ill do that. what the best way to connect the 12 gauge wire to the positive battery terminal, and whats the best way to connect the ground wire to the bolt?
  3. i got a radar detector for my car and have the cigarette lighter to power it. the lighter has a hook up for ground and +12v. i want to know what all the fuses are for on the fuse block, and which ones are safe to tap into and wont affect anything else. i have a 2003 caterham super seven dedion with a 2.0 zetec engine. the bottom two fuses turn on and off with the ignition so would either of these work? if not, which would work? also for the ground wire, is it ok to use the chassis as a ground? can i just use the bolt for the windshield/windkick? i found that to be a ground with my test light. there are pics of the fuse box and cig lighter in this thread........ http://www.usa7s.com/vb/showthread.php?t=4072&page=3
  4. alright i got the test light out and started pokin around. the bottom two fuses on the fuse block turn on and off with ignition. would i be a able to tap it from the back for a hot lead or should i use a different fuse? i dont know what all the fuses are for, anyone know what all the fuses are for and what would be a safe one to tap that wouldnt be bothered by the detector? also with my test light i found that the bolts that hold on the windshield/windkick is a ground. couldnt i just hook up the ground from here to the cig lighter, or should i not use the chassis as a ground?
  5. really, thanks for answering one question, know i know there are no leads. i know the basics of electrical, i have taken electricity classes on two different occasions. all i need for this to work is a ground wire and a +12v wire. is it really that hard to put in? im just wondering where i can find a +12v wire and which ones best to use. your right though i dont want to do something wrong and have something bad happen. it doesnt have to turn off with the ignition, i can turn it off and on manually every time. this shouldnt be that hard to do. plus i have no idea where to take my car to let someone else do it. can anyone else let me know where i can find a +12v wire and ground?
  6. Most are fused and connected to +12v switchable to off when the ignition is turned off. Where do i find these at?! And my fuse box has no open space. there are fuses in every hole. im am very new to work with the electrical system, so the more help the better. working on the electrical system just gives me a headache. i do have a fluke 87 though for any testing
  7. alright so where do i find the wire for the ground, the +12v wire, and the wire for the illumination ring? is it between the seats or under the dash?? my car is a 2003 super seven dedion if that matters
  8. alright i finally got the power outlet for my car!! how do i hook this up now? it looks like i need some wires with a 12v power source. where can i find this? and how do i attach it? i have included some pics to help you see what im talking about. also what does this green piesce do? i wanna hurry and see if i can pick up radar!
  9. thanks ill have to do that. also i want to put side mirrors on my car. i cant stand not being able to see behind me. how do i connect the carbon fiber mirrors on my car? do i have to buy something to attach them to. i will get a picture of the area so you guys can see
  10. well i took out the washer fluid nozzle to feed the wire through for the remote display and the connector for the wire is bigger then the nozzle hole. should i gradually drill it bigger until it goes through? also once its through what should i use to protect the wire from rubbing on the edge of the body?
  11. thanks for the options. ill try them out once i get power going to it. i only want to get the remote audio if i cant see the arrows in the daytime. does anyone have a problem seeing the arrows in bright sunlight?
  12. how would i not have to drill a hole. where do i have to run the wire? is it possible to have the remote display and the remote audio?
  13. well i did the first part of the wiring. i ran it straight down to the trans tunnel and ran it along where the leather meets the carpet. i ran it all the way under the dash and tuck it behind some wires for now(because im waiting for the power outlet in the mail). i bought the concealed display and was thinking of mounting it where i put it in the pic. i would drill a small hole into the body under the carbon fiber tab of the windkick so i can run the cord to the concealed display. i am probably just gonna use some double sided tape to keep the display in place. i never drive my car in the rain, i actually check the radar before every drive, so nothing will ever get wet. to me it looks nice and will work for the back laser, but i just hope it will not be blocked by the windkick. i dont think it will. if i cant see the display in the daytime, valentine 1 offers a headphone hookup that i can put in my helmet to hear it.
  14. is it difficult to take off the dash. looking at my car i see some rivets on the bottom and also on the top, where the dash meets the body. how do you get the tops rivets out? they look like you cant fit a drill in because the body is in the way. is there anything else you have to take off, and is it difficult. i want to get the carbon dash, that why im asking. TIA Dan
  15. here are some pics of what i did. if this doesnt work ill try mounting it on the rollbar. i already went for a ride with it on, it was sturdy above 90mph. now i am just waiting for the power outlet to come in the mail.
  16. i looked for boxes online and had no luck so i got two button tops to put on the buttons in between the seats. i sanded down the button tops to make them more flat. i took a small aluminum plate and super glued it to the two buttons. then i plan to put velcro and the aluminum and detector to secure it down. i did this so i can take it off when i park it. i just hope the wheel on the back or the windkick dont block the signals.
  17. alright ill try mounting it on the rollbar. what should i do about the cord coming from the detector? just tape it down to the rollbar? also i dont think it is long enough to reach the power outlet under the dash. is there a place in the back of the car that i could hook the power outlet to so i dont have to run the wire all the way up front. any suggestions on how i get a plastic box or something else to cover the detector. cause it would have to have two openings, one for the front and back
  18. i just bought the carbon fiber windkick and installed it. it fit good except it didnt seem to be tight in the middle. there is a gap between the windkick and the body. did i miss something? does it need to be held down by more then the two outer bolts? also i bought a valentine one radar detector and am having a real hard time figuring where to mount it. should i mount in in the center and have both side mirrors, or on the passenger side so i can have one center rear view mirror? or somewhere else? i need the detector, i just had a speeding ticket in this car. how should i cut the carbon fiber so the radar sensor is not covered by the windkick? and if i want to get the center rear view mirror, do i have to drill holes in the carbon fiber and into the body?
  19. sounds good drew, here are a few pics of what i got.
  20. the car that i saw looked like it had little extensions on top of the coilover and on the tie rod end. ill take a pic to show you what i have. the owner of the car that had the widetrack said it was much better than the normal setup.
  21. i have a 2003 caterham super seven, and recently saw another caterham owner that had the widetrack suspension. is there any way that i can buy a kit or somthing so i can switch over to the widetrack? if not, what parts will i need? TIA Dan
  22. i have a Valentine 1 radar detector and love it. it has paid for itself a couple times, saving me from speeding tickets. sometime it picks up radar a half mile away!
  23. alright i have tried ordering the carbon windkick and the cigar lighter off of the UK caterham cars site, but every time it says that the card has been declined for some reason. is there a phone number for ordering it through the US?
  24. yeah i think ill stick with the stock leather seats, they are very comfortable compared to my lotus's thin carbon fiber seats.
  25. would that be 7-10 each seat?
