  1. That sounds nice to be around tracks. 500 was just a number I threw out. Checking on Mapquest its around 2000 miles to Washington and almost 800 miles to Anchorage, AK. I think Anchorage has a dragstrip nearby. Also I need to ferry my vehicle 70ish miles north by sea to get to mainland. Juneau is pretty isolated, being surrounded by water and mountains.
  2. Kitcat, that might make it to my future upgrade list. I'll just settle for the factory seat and 4point road harness for a while. Since the seven will be a street only car, I'd track it but I think the nearest track is 500+ miles away. How's the 6pt for daily driving? And what seat did you use? Alaskossie, I think I'll just use the standart 3.62. I can always swap it out if needed. Do you happen to know if anyone in the US sells them or is it a UK item?
  3. Don't forget unless the paint is ready to spray you will also need to buy some reducer and the ratios are usually 4:1 or 3:1, that's reducer to paint ratio. Then if you want to make sure the paint stick you should use a primer and then to get a nice gloss use come clear. Paintjobs are really all in the prepwork if the surface doesn't look nice it will show up in the paint. I have a feeling that I'll have missing parts when I order my kit, so I'll have a good amount of time to work on the paint. For anyone interested this site has some nice paint and bodywork supplies http://www.eastwood.com. Btw, painting is really expensive here. I think my cousin was quoted $1200 just to get his bumper on his evo painted. Also I don't trust the work of the shops here, I see too many cars w/ peeling paint.
  4. I was just curious what a rattle can finish would look like if you did the prepwork properly. I went to the duplicolor website and it seems that using their rattlecan primer, basecolor and clear it turned out pretty well. Its just an idea I was bouncing around. If it turns out bad I can always strip it down again and redo it. That's why I'm going to practice on another car first. The other option was to to buy an Earlex Spray Station 5000. To make it look nice and shiney all you need to do is a bit of wet sanding to get the orangepeel off and then buff it. I already have a nice random orbital and a wax and polish kit from Griot's Garage.
  5. Cool looks like no problem w/ the registering that's good. Do you happen to know if they have a taller rear axle ratio? I probably won't use it, but it would be nice to know. Just looked at Raceline's website they have a 3.14 ring gear(crown wheel) and pinion.
  6. I was thinking about the CSR Roadsport. The pricelist I got prices it at $46,125. How much would a transmission, engine and the associated ancillaries add to the price? A seven w/ a 6speed is around 4k rpm at 70, right? I think my WRX is around 3.5-4k and it has an aftermarket exhaust. I don't think I'll mind the noise too much. I plan on bringing earplugs anyways. Anyone try those headsets w/ voice activated mics? Similar to the ones they use in helicopters? I was thinking of getting a set for roadtrips. Its kind of annoying to use regular walkie talkies.
  7. I'm planning on painting my seven when I buy it. I was wondering if anyone painted their own seven and how difficult was it. I'd like to know what kind of paint you used, primer type and if you paint all the parts separately or together. I'm debating whether I need to use a self etching primer or not. I plan to sand down the places I plan to paint, clean it off, mask off everything I don't want to paint, then primer, block sand it, then paint the nose cone stripe, tape it off, then base color and clear. I plan to experiment on an old van we had w/ duplicolor spray cans and see how well it will turn out. Just going to do the hood first.
  8. I saw that car, but I really want an SV. Since I plan on long roadtrips a larger cockpit and larger fuel tank is preferable. Also I'm not to keen on getting a car that was tested by automotive magazines.
  9. My cousin is the one interested in building one. I got him interested in it after showing him a brochure of one. He currently own a 2006 mitsubishi evo and was thinking of getting a corvette or some other sportscar w/ a v8.
  10. I plan on getting a home equity loan. Our house is already paid off, so I might as well use it for something. Thanks I thought I read that somewhere, so a $60k loan should cover all the costs I hope.
  11. Alaskaossie, is it difficult to get your seven titled/registered? I haven't looked into it yet. Also I'm trying to get my cousin to build a factory-five GTM, so he'd probably like to know how to get that registered and titled too.
  12. Hello, I was wondering if anyone has one or has ever ridden/driven one.
  13. Hopefully I can get a kit ordered by the end of this year or by next year. I need to pay off some debts and finish building the garage for it. So far only have the foundation dug for it. Hopefully I'll have it done by the end of the summer. Its a 16' by 28' metal building. I'm building it specifically for the seven.
  14. I plan on taking a roadtrip to anchorage after its built, I have some family there. I currently have an 2004 Subaru WRX and it has 44k miles, so I do drive around a bit. I've been to Anchorage 2 times w/ it. Those frost heaves are a killer when you hit them at 80-90mph, we lifted off our seats when we hit those.
  15. He's building his in colorado, isn't he? I live in Juneau, Alaska and will have to get it shipped here since the only access is by sea or air.
  16. pksurveyor, how much did you pay for the tax and duty?
  17. I plan on buying a used duratec online for around $550 and putting the engine together myself. I'll also do the paint. I'll probably add the superlight suspension for another $1,216. Hopefully they can ship the transmission w/ the kit so I don't have to pay the transatlantic shipping. Then I need to figure out how much the shipping to Alaska is. Since I'll be building the engine I might as well replace the bearing, rods and pistons. F2USA has a package that's $945. Also replace the various torque to yield bolts w/ ARP bolt for another $302. So that's a grand total of $57,668 minus painting supplies and shipping costs. If I can get a loan for the whole amount I can save $3500 w/ the exchange rate discount.
