  1. And yet you couldn't provide one link. There are the Grote 7" ones but I'm kinda partial to the Wipac / Caterham ones to keep the authentic look. Since I've seen several people ask about upgrading to the 5.75" ones in the past I figure this would be a good way for someone to offload their old pair.
  2. Thanks for the heads up. They're chrome and I rather not have to pay the exchange rate and shipping. A lot of owners tend to upgrade to the smaller 5.75" so I hope somebody here will have their old 7" ones.
  3. Congrats on getting the car running and on the road! Curious as to what your car's weight ended up being. Mine is 1356 lbs with a full tank. Cornerweights with 200lbs driver weight and full tank: LF 373 RF 326 LR 464 RR 400
  4. I have the Westfield one if you really want one. I splurged and ordered one from Caterham with the 7 logo.
  5. The pedal cover looks great. I made mine very similarly. I noticed the big battery in your picture. To save weight and space the lithium batteries have come down in price. I bought this one a year ago and it has worked great. http://www.solomotoparts.com/Ballistic-Battery-8-Cell-EVO-2-Lithium-1lb-10oz/ Here is a picture of it in the far corner, along with the ABS, and the pedal cover.
  6. Is that Peter Egan? I first learned about Westfields when I read about his XI build. Always loved to read his columns.
  7. Good to know the oil pans are sturdy. One great thing about the Miata is how plentiful and inexpensive the engines are. I have a 1.8 from a 97 in mine but would love the extra torque of a later engine with VVT.
  8. Did you shorten the oil pan? I wasn't going to until I put the car on the ground and noticed how little clearance there was. Now that I have there is about 3" between it and the ground. I didn't widen it to makeup for the loss of oil like others have done. I did measure the volume loss at the time and it wasn't much. Then again, the Miata doesn't take that much oil to begin with so every bit counts. While I had the oil pan out I added a bung for a oil return line in case I add a turbo in the future. I also added another bung for a oil temperature sensor.
  9. The ticking doesn't bother me. If it ticks longer than usual it is a good sign that either the engine is a bit low on oil or I haven't changed the oil in a long time or both. :-) In addition to the Westie I'm on my third Miata so I've grown quite accustomed to the ticking sound.
  10. Congratulations! A real milestone especially after dealing with Miata wiring loom. The feeling of the first start is glorious! haha The valves ticking is normal for Miata engines. It's always there on startup just nowhere near as long as on a first start after sitting for awhile.
  11. Looking at the picture it looks like you haven't moved the clutch master location up to fix the pedal ratio. It's mentioned here in Flyin Miata's build: https://flyinmiata.com/westfield/Torgan/index.php?UID=20 This is one of gotchas of the Westie MX-5 build. Another that comes to mind was that my steering wheel location was not centered in relation to the seat and yet another was putting the steering column parts together. I had to buy a welder and learn to weld to fix all those issues. Fun! Nevermind the fact that one of the first things mentioned in the Westfield manual (I use this term loosely) is that a welder is not needed. lol Actually, looking at the picture again, it looks to me like you did move it up. My bad. Looks great! Carry on...
  12. I did the same thing removing the 2nd O2 sensor, EGR, charcoal canister, etc.. The factory ECU will run fine. Obviously with the check engine light on. I did go with the MS3 right away once I confirmed engine and electrical system worked fine with factory ecu. Don't throw away those extra wires and connectors. I know I used them later in the build. For example, I used a connector for all the wiring going to the rear of the car. Wiring looks great. Build gets a little more fun again (you see more progress) once you get passed that hurdle. :-)
  13. "Z" Headlights make me Horn "Y". Hahaha nice
  14. I feel your pain. When I first started the build I tracked hours spent but after a while I stopped because it was too depressing. lol Wiring took me a long time to do. At least 4 weeks. Removing what is not needed is easy using the Miata schematics but cutting everything so the lengths are right takes time. It also changes a bit as you progress with the build and move things around. After I got the engine running and confirmed the wiring was working right I changed the stock ECU to a Megasquirt MS3. I also never liked the Miata gauges/dash and made a custom dash to look more like a typical Seven. It's a bit slow going at times but the results at the end are worth it! Although I can't help but think I could have saved money and a LOT of time by buying a used Caterham. lmao But what is the fun in that? :-)
  15. I built a Miata-based Westie. I think there are too many wires to bother with a connector through the scuttle. I considered cutting the scuttle all the way to the bottom to make it easier to remove wiring but in the end left it as is. To remove the wiring is not too difficult if you need to remove the scuttle later for servicing. I can run all the wiring into the scuttle from the driver side (left) and out of the scuttle on the passenger side. I even retained the ABS and can still do this. This leaves a big connector and quite a few extra wires. I did remove everything that was not needed from the Miata wiring and cut everything to size for the Westie as it looks like you're doing. I love your mock-ups! Great build so far. I should have made a build thread when I built mine. I could have used the motivation.
  16. I ordered this one: http://www.caterhamparts.co.uk/product.php?id_product=1514 for a Westfield with a FW nose and it fits.
  17. I thought I'd check here before ordering new. Looking to purchase: Caterham set of indicator cones like these: http://www.caterhamparts.co.uk/product.php?id_product=2711 Also a set of lowered single arm headlight brackets: http://www.caterhamparts.co.uk/product.php?id_product=1116 Thanks!
