  1. Do we know if there will be any Caterhams at Carlisle this coming Saturday, 5/16/15? I'm planning on being in the market for a Caterham as soon as my Jaguar sells, but I will first need to know what I don't fit in! Thanks, --Bob Collum
  2. A reminder - any and all Se7en iterations are welcome to our 9th Get Your Lotus Out (GYLO) event. We will get together at East Market at Fair Lakes (Dick's Sporting Goods & Kohl's) on Sunday, 05/17/15, from 8:00AM to 10:00AM. COME ON OUT! Here are the RSVPs we have so far - Bob Collum Mark Franke Jim Hurd Duncan Black Allan Yankosky Andreas Xenos Mick Hartzall Silver Surfer CYOW RBH Uncle Sam Fermi Almighty Chris D. Stephen Kinn Greg Smoak Bob/Sharon Scates Vmontes We have some people planning a drive afterwards, and some of us will be going to brunch at the Blue Iguana. Hope you come out to enjoy the cars & people! Below are some of the unusual Lotus cars we've had in the past. (We have no Se7ens confirmed yet!) Please RSVP, so I know how may spaces to cordon off. --Bob Collum
  3. What is GYLO? Get Your Lotus Out (GYLO) is a simple concept. We wait until the snow, salt & ice are gone, and ask people to come on out, driving their favorite car. We have been doing this, two times a year, since 2011; this is our ninth GYLO. It's a good excuse to drive your car, and meet up with similar-minded, fun people. Where is GYLO? We hold GYLO alongside the weekly Cars & Coffee at East Market at Fair Lakes - there's a Kohl's and a Dick's Sporting Goods in the complex. East Market at Fair Lakes is about a 5 minute drive from the intersection of 66 & 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) in Fairfax, VA. You can use your Navigation system or MapQuest this parking lot, using the address for Kohl's - 12551 Fair Lakes Circle Fairfax, VA 22033 When is GYLO? We set this up to run from 8:00AM to 10:00AM, but Mark and I get there to set up around 7:00AM, to be sure we have reserved space for those who RSVP. (Our turnouts have ranged from 20 up to 36 Lotus in past years.) We tally up votes for favorite Lotus, and do the door prize drawings around 10:00AM. Some of us go to brunch around the corner, and some arrange to do a drive from there. GYLO can be a nice, short gathering if you want, or it can be the start of your Lotus day. We hope to see you there. Please forward this information to your Lotus friends! A group of us goes to brunch afterwards, around 10:30AM. Our group gets 15% off brunch at The Blue Iguana restaurant, nearby. Please RSVP to me, so I know how many parking spaces to reserve. We will have a popular vote for 'Favorite Lotus', and a drawing for door prizes. Bring your Lotus (or Se7en) to qualify for either. 4. Several more pics from our trip... --Bob Collum
  5. Some other Lotus folks and I caravanned up from Northern Virginia to Hershey, PA last Saturday, 3/14/15, to see the exhibit - Lotus: The Art of Lightness. It was foggy and rainy on the way up, but our group did fine. Our transport consisted of 2 Elises, an Exige, an Evora S, a Jaguar XJ, and a Volvo wagon! This exhibit is well worth the drive, and the drive would be nice on a clear day. The exhibit runs thru April 26th. The museum also has some interesting antiques, and I was surprised to see several Tuckers on display there. Here are some pictures I took, leading off (of course) with a Se7en... --Bob Collum
  6. Sorry, Paul - that's Fairfax, VA. The two venues are - Katie's Coffee 760 Walker Road Great Falls, VA 22066 Saturdays, 6:00 - 9:00 AM Starbuck's East Market at Fair Lakes 12551 Fair Lakes Circle Fairfax, VA 22033 Sundays, 8:00 - 10:30 AM --Bob Collum
  7. Yep - I've been going to Katie's Cars & Coffee in Great Falls, VA since March of 10, before it was an 'official' event. The East Market at Fair Lakes Cars & Coffee (Kohl's, for short) has not been running quite as long. I started attending there in November of 2010, but I certainly wasn't around at the first meet. These two weekly events are interesting enough that I attend both pretty much every week, and take pictures of what shows up. Katie's on Saturday mornings is amazing, and diverse, and starts ungodly early. Kohl's, on Sunday mornings, starts later, and is in a big, open parking lot that allows for more flexibility in grouping similar cars together - the Mopar guys park together every week, as do many others. Because of the layout, I hold specialized meets at Kohl's - twice a year for my Lotus friends and two different days a year for my Jaguar friends. Both these venues (and all the other Cars & Coffee venues I know of, at least locally) draw a great variety of vehicles. Even if you're bored by a garden-variety exotic, or if a muscle car doesn't float your boat, you can see (among other things) a more-than-100-year-old motorized bicycle, a Cessna chassis on a Toyota van frame, an Indycar, a 1960's F1 Cooper, a hand-built Lister-Jaguar replica with a modified Z06 engine, or a VW Type 3 with a Subaru drivetrain, with a sequential gearshift. If you can't find something to interest you, you probably don't really like cars! --Bob Collum P.S.: At one of my 'Get Your Lotus Out' events at Kohl's a couple of years ago, we had 3 Caterhams show up.
  8. We have a Cars & Coffee event every Sunday morning, from around 8:00AM. Turnout is good, even in cold weather like we had today. We have a good mix of foreign/exotics and American iron. A decent turnout today, despite temperatures in the teens (Fahrenheit), and patchy ice on some back roads. Of special interest to this crowd - we had our first Brunton Stalker show up today! --Bob Collum
