Rubber bushing for exhaust

Recommended Posts

Anyone have a source for the rubber bushing/isolator that mounts the rear of the muffler to the bracket in the back. Mine broke off. Looks like a good thing to keep around as a spare as well.

Also, you may want to look at a Graingers store if you have one near you. If I remember correctly, they are referred to as vibration isolators, 5/16" thread on both sides, 1" thick. Some of the larger Ace hardware stores also carry similar isolators.

Thanks for all the replies. Always forget about McMaster Carr. Not much they don't have for hardware. Found what looks like what I need at Grainger. I'll stop there tomorrow to take a look. Thanks again.

Has anyone else sandwiched a small shock bushing between the exhaust and body mount using a smooth shank bolt and washers? I picked up the idea off the old Blatchat after having gone through a couple Caterham bushings in a year. It feels to be working very well, and there is no chance the two sides will separate. Compression damping is preserved, though I've lost the expansion damping properties. I expect I'll know I made a mistake when my muffler joint disintegrates.

The usual mounting using a bobbin isolator side-loaded always seemed just wrong to me. I mounted my muffler using a generic muffler hanger from Speedway, Summit, Jegs or ????. Gravity keeps it loaded vertical like it was intended to do. It will not tear itself apart like a bobbin isolator will as the engine torques. I could have made the chassis mount side a bit less conspicuous. I have 2 years on this design now and it is working great.
