SK400
Kitcat, agree.. I think I'll adjust to have neutral toe for that track. Quick (novice) question again.. are the steering tie rods only threaded on the tie-rod-end side? In other words, can I simply loosen the tie rod to tie-rod-end securing nut and turn clock wise / counter clockwise the tie rod to change the toe (eg trying to avoid to disassemble the tie-rod-end from the upright)? I assume the that tie-rods connect to the steering rack with ball joints. Is this correct? Any harm or risk in this approach? thanks a bunch
Kitcat
Yes, adjusting toe is just that easy (loosen retaining nut, rotate tie rods-opposite ways, re-tighten retaining nut). If you have the wrenches it takes 10'.
SK400
thanks! you realize that I'm going through all this trouble (new tires, adjustments, wind deflector etc.. ) to keep up with you on the track right?
Kitcat
As I recall, you were already keeping up. And that was with me on slicks. For the time being, tho, I have switched back to narrow ToyoR888's. Hmmm, maybe it will help if I finally learn how to shift the 6sp....
yellowss7
thanks! you realize that I'm going through all this trouble (new tires, adjustments, wind deflector etc.. ) to keep up with you on the track right? Seb, you are so competitive. You know that this is just a fun little get together with a little friendly laps. Now on the go kart track it might get a little more competitive. :cuss::devil: But seriously, Croc and I are really looking forward to seeing everyone again and meeting the new guys that are coming out this year. We are certainly going to miss our V8 Storker guys Mario and Shane this year. As well as Michael from Florida, but hopefully they will all have healed and will be able to join us again next year. Seb, but from what I've heard, Kelli is going to be your real competition on track. If she get's the bug then you will most likely have to build another car. :driving:
CarMan
WoW! 3.5 negative camber? I started with 2.0 negative camber and watched front tire wear and found that using 17lbs air pressure to start, and watching the tires grow up to 23lbs in a cold race and 25lbs in a HOT one, I was still not showing any wear on the outside inch of the front tires. And this is on some tight tracks like Lime Rock and Thompson. I am even thinking of ramping back to a 1.5 negative camber to increase the tires footprint. I run about a .25 of toe out so the car will turn in nicely and does not twitch on pavement changes like Watkins Glen where there are cement patches in some corners. I am wondering about any toe IN.... I'm thinking that would make a car VERY twitchy if the pavement changes. I am running Hoosier Slicks (13") and they last about 12 races (3 or four race weekends) and then they are SHOT. I'm just putting in my two cents and that may not be worth 2 cents
SK400
Tom, you are right on both fronts... but all good fun and for fun times. Keeps me on my toes and a good way to learn. Kelli took the car for a spin last weekend, it was wild! She was a bit afraid of stalling the car so she was a bit heavy on the gas and quick on the clutch at times.. funny (sexy I admit) seeing her fish tailing at intersections. :auto:. CarMan, did not realize you drove on some of the same tracks I occasionally attend. Would be great to connect and / or synch up. I live CT. CarMan
Hello SK400 I would love to see a Cat fan at the tracks. We will be at Lime Rock on June 19 & 20th. If you are in the area, please stop by and have a look. But you know race cars... don't get any closer than 20 ft. Some of the war wounds show up if you get any closer. Our car is #31 and we usually park in the second paddock. CT has another of my favorite tracks... Thompson speedway. We have a track record there for the EP class. SK400
CarMan, I ll try to swing by on the 19th but unsure Tom / KitCat, to answer your question on Toe, I had opted for very slight toe in for high speed track. That said, the car lost its fun steering factor (took It for a drive on local roads last weekend) so thinking on opening up the toe a bit to increase steering responsiveness (neutral or +0.2 deg max). The increase negative camber has changed the front feel of the car and I have no clue how the new setup will handle on the track. .. I have an opportunity to drive on the Monticello track this weekend so I'll report back. Wish me luck!
