rcollum
Sorry, not a very technical question, but I bought my '06 Caterham 3 weeks ago, and it had one set of keys. I found the ignition key blank, thanks to a post on this site. Now, I need to find out what the keycode is for the locking gas cap from Caterham. My local locksmith could not suss out where the key came from. Any help would be appreciated. A picture of the cap and the key, below. A side question - is there a way to reach someone at Caterham USA for parts orders? Thanks! Bob Collum
Sean
Hi Bob, The cap is made for Caterham by Newton Equipment in the UK. Their NA distributor is Fuel Safe, and their UK distributor is Think Automotive. I believe the branded cap will only be available through Caterham or their agents, but any of the other non-branded parts you should be able to get through their normal distributors. This is my belief only rather than personal experience, as I have never tried to source any replacement parts from this part of the car (yet). Best of luck. slomove
Is the cap locked now? If not why do you need a cap key? Nobody is going to steal gas from a Seven. I have a cap without lock and it never came to mind that I might need one.
rcollum
Thanks, everyone! I contacted one of the US Distributors for Newton Equipment, and he was nice enough to suggest that he could sell me a brand-new lock module with two keys. Slomove, I hadn't considered the possibility of not locking the cap. That's also an option. Going for a drive with a friend tomorrow - looking forward to it! --Bob Collum
Taber10
I have the "cheaper spec" Caterham, and it came with the plastic cap. While I agree with Gert--you certainly can't steal much gas from a Caterham, I like having a key that says "Rover" on it! How many Rovers do you see anymore???? I've never had to say it's only a Rover gas cap.... Taber
