Protecting the paint from windshield stanchions

Hi all, hope everyone is off to a merry start to their holiday!

Has anyone done anything to prevent scratches from the windshield stanchions? I seem to recall seeing a post on one of the 7s boards about small chips and scuffs from the windshield fittings rubbing on the sides where they mount, but can't find it. I've got the dual option, windshield and carbon aeroscreen, and to date have only used the aeroscreen. Since the weather is cooling down I've been debating on attaching the windshield and doors for the next few months, but don't want to find nicked paint when I pull the windshield and stanchions off in a few months.

Any suggestions?

Dan

My whole Caterham (except around the hood louvers) is covered in clear bra. I change between windshield and Brooklands screens and although the clear bra gets messed up the paint is protected. When you lift the windshield or aeroscreen on or off have two people and pull the brackets out and away from the paint.

I keep toying with the idea of getting a carbon fiber aeroscreen to be able to shift back and forth between it and the windshield. I can't help but wonder if the best option would be get a second aluminum cowl (painted to match the car) and leave the windshield attached to the existing cowl and mount the aeroscreen to the second. Then it would be simply (in the relative sense) a matter of dismounting one cowl/screen assembly and installing the other in its place.

Go to a craft store and find the crafting foam. They make it in thin sheets (about 2 or 3 mm). Get it in black and cut out a piece to match your windshield stands. Rubber-cement it to the stand and you're set! Its worked for me for a decade.
