solder_guy Posted July 27, 2007 Posted July 27, 2007 If you ever get to Durango, CO.....this was our July 4 trip, highly recommended! ... The scenery is just spectacular. Ditto! I traveled on that same narrow gauge railroad 10 years ago! Spectacular ride! BTW: the railcars are having a run on that track August 23rd - 26th. Rob
DeanG Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 We stoped in Durango in September 2004 while driving the Lotus Elan (M100) cross country. It is one of those magical small cities that have all but dissapeard from the landscape. There are some good driving roads in that area. I would like to spend some more time there.
solder_guy Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 There's a joke about people who live in that area .. Someone asked a local, "What do you do?" His response was, "A little camping, a little hiking, a little biking." Kinda puts the social power ladder on its side. Rob
locost7018 Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 I've been there also. Highly recommend it. Also while you are there go to Mesa Verde and Cortez. Cortez has some of the nicest people in the world. Russ
Kitcat Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 Did it several years ago. The ride on the train was worth the whole trip. We stayed at a cabin and when the 55 year old female owner met us she had a live crow perched on her shoulder. Our kids loved it. While we were there, the paper reported a 9 year old being attacked by a mountain lion in his garage. Definitely a different world. Mike
