lotsats Posted December 11, 2018 Posted December 11, 2018 I am building a replacement engine for my Lotus Seven America. The previous owner blew the engine, big time, with a hole in the block you can put your fist through. The one part I have had trouble finding is a set of flat top, high compression, pistons. These are for the BMC A Series 948 cc engine. It is easy to find these pistons for the 1275 cc engine, but not for the 948 cc. This is the same engine used in the Austin Healey Bugeye Sprite and I haven’t had luck with the usual Sprite part resources. Please contact me if you have some or know where I might find them. Thanks!
11Budlite Posted December 11, 2018 Posted December 11, 2018 APT should have 948cc HC pistons, maybe MiniMania too.
SevenAmerica Posted December 11, 2018 Posted December 11, 2018 I believe I have two different sets - one old race prepped, another NOS, unless I sold them already! Let me do some digging. I have other 948 spares at this point as well... feel free to email me on johnd@simplesevens.org. My own 1961 Seven America is waiting for me to finish the lightweight 948 I'm building for it!
sagamore Posted December 11, 2018 Posted December 11, 2018 Contact Hap Waldrop at Acme Speed Shop (864-370-3000). He's a great source of information. Just give him a phone call. (I'm not sure of piston height, but I think the 998 piston should work with an overbore.)
dssbrown Posted December 12, 2018 Posted December 12, 2018 I have a range of Spridget 948 engine parts. One is a complete 948 cc SCCA race engine. Please let me know of prospective interest. Doug Brown dssbrown@optonline.net #845-351-5443
Dave W Posted December 13, 2018 Posted December 13, 2018 Victoria British has piston sets from std all the way to .060" over for the 948 engine. DaveW
lotsats Posted December 16, 2018 Author Posted December 16, 2018 The 998 Pistons will work using 1098 rods. The problem is they are .060 oversize for the 948 and race legal is no more than .047 oversize.
lotsats Posted December 16, 2018 Author Posted December 16, 2018 Unfortunately they are dished, not flat top.
