mrivera Posted August 11, 2007 Posted August 11, 2007 Hey folks, remember me from the 777 event? We'll I had a little incident yesterday. Luckily, the car stayed pretty well intact and protected me. The pivot bolt on the floor mounted pedal came loose, and when I went for the brakes at the end of the straight, the pedal went to the floor. I was pretty sure I was going to meet the maker at that point, but I got slowed down enough to avoid injury. Video here: Somehow, I only have a sore neck... Mark
EburgE Posted August 11, 2007 Posted August 11, 2007 Wow man! Glad you're okay. That must have been a couple scarey seconds there across the sand. Hope you can rebuild. See a doctor if you haven't.
slngsht Posted August 11, 2007 Posted August 11, 2007 Glad you are OK! Looks like the car took the impact pretty well. I think this would have been alot worse if it had happened on the street.
R1 Seven Posted August 11, 2007 Posted August 11, 2007 Bummer, Mark. I am glad to hear that you are ok. Hopefully the car will be easily fixed. You built the frame pretty solid, and I will bet that it held up well. Sorry you had to be the example, but this is a good demonstration on how important is is to make the cars safe. Knowing that something like this could happen to anyone, I always feel safe when I take my car out because of the extra effort put into the safety gear/cage. Good luck on getting her back together.
solder_guy Posted August 11, 2007 Posted August 11, 2007  looks like you are moving your neck ok .. thank god you could walk away from that .. Rob
Boxologist Posted August 11, 2007 Posted August 11, 2007 Damn mark, glad u were able to walk away. definitely follow up on with a dr aout the neck pain. a little neck pain can turn into years long struggle with back and neck issues after an accident. I sure after everything settles down u will have the se7en redone and attacking asphalt.
JBH Posted August 11, 2007 Posted August 11, 2007 Ouch....I could almost feel the impact. Glad you are ok. I had a similar crash in my Formula Ford a couple months ago. Once you realize you are ok, the pain of seeing your car in that condition starts to set in. Hopefully the repairs will be straightforward. Please let us know the condition of the car and what needs to be done. Sorry man!
DIYMAN25 Posted August 11, 2007 Posted August 11, 2007 MArk Glad you are ok... That is one of Worse night mare when you track your car on Track, special on Lotus 7 type car.... Made my wonder I should really add Cage into my Seven if I want to keep tracking her... J
BusaLoco Posted August 11, 2007 Posted August 11, 2007 Glad to hear (and see) that you are OK. That crash looked scary! Thank God for the Gravel Bed ... and the incredibly rigid Box tube space frame. If you walked away with just a scare and a sore neck, how did the seven fare? ... Will it survive ... or ... Does it now have DNR placed on it's chart!?
mrivera Posted August 11, 2007 Author Posted August 11, 2007 Thanks, folks. I'm not sure what's going to happen to her just yet. The frame looks to be fairly twisted, and theres a good many tubes that need to be replaced. Now that I feel pretty confident about building a chassis, I may go a slightly different direction this time, and use the same components. I was having WAY too much fun before the incident to give up now. The car was definitely in its element for the last few laps... There's just nothing that compares to that feeling. pics of the damage are on my build site starting here: http://rivera.fotomojo.us/g/MX7/IMG_3051
slngsht Posted August 12, 2007 Posted August 12, 2007 Looks like some damage to a whole lotta components :nonod: But at least she went out on top  and you're here to tell us all about it.
WestTexasS2K Posted August 12, 2007 Posted August 12, 2007  Man that sucks!! I am glad to see you walk away all in one piece. Twisted metal can be replaced, 7s enthusiast cant. I am feeling your pain as well. Kevin is bringing my car back tommorrow that hit the wall. He sent some better pics and I am afraid we are in for a new frame as well. We shall see in the morning, we will be pulling of the skin and taking some measurements and see what happens.
