das76 Posted July 20, 2022 Share Posted July 20, 2022 (edited) Hi folks! 2005 Caterham: In order to pass local inspection my ‘new to me’ car needs a working windshield washer. From the washer nozzle I can see that it has the rubber tubing for the water. That tubing goes down from the nozzle and through the firewall with the wiring harness and is coiled up ready to be connected to the washer bottle I have. See pics below. i can also see some wires from the switch going into the wiring harness. There are some wires coming out of a white plug as well as what appears to be a red / white wire directly from the switch but it’s a bit hard to see and tell. what I can’t find, however , is where the wires (and hopefully a plug) come out in the engine bay so that they can be plugged into the washer bottle/pump that came with the car (but that wasn’t used) would a 2005 Caterham have come with the wiring all ready ? I would have assumed so given they ran the water line and I can see the wires coming out of the white plug as well as what looks be better a red/white wire from the washer switch itself many thanks. But, in case you want an easy/quick fix just for inspection, I know that many folks in my prior community (Cobra replicas) will install manual wipers for inspection then run without any wipers. MV8 Posted July 20, 2022 Share Posted July 20, 2022 I don't have a 05 schematic. The white plug middle terminal on the three hole side (green wire) should be the one to the washer pump positive. The orange is the positive feed to the washer control. The washer connector should have a black for ground and the green wire. It should split out of the main harness near the air filter. das76 Posted July 20, 2022 Author Share Posted July 20, 2022 @MV8 thanks. That’s what I was hoping to hear that the wires would be coming out there (which makes sense) but I didn’t see them. The car is still several hours away from me so I haven’t had much chance to have access to it. Next time I’m there I’ll make sure to bring tools to take the air filter off since it’s too tight to get in there with it on. I've seen some Caterhams where the washer bottle sits much further forward but with this zetec there isn’t room up there so I wasn’t entirely sure where the wires would be located. MV8 Posted July 20, 2022 Share Posted July 20, 2022 The white 3 wire connector is the 94 and older heater plug. Caterham has a subloom/adapter for use of the 95-up heater. The wwp looks to be a 90's vw part but without the check valve. Might be useful if you need to source a connector if there is no pigtail. This connector type should have a wire around the edge. The pig tail for the wwp should break out near the filter but is probably about two feet long. I've seen pics of different wwp reservoirs in various locations. Taber10 Posted July 20, 2022 Share Posted July 20, 2022 (edited) I just looked at my 2007 with a very similar Zetec SVT. The washer bottle pump wire is a two wire connector, with black and green wires. Comes out of the firewall, and in mine is ziptied to the water hose and for a short distance to the positive battery cable! I was unable to get a clear picture. Removing the air filter wouldn't help, but maybe removing the whole air intake pipe would. I note another similarity--I have a "spacer" block necessitated when I replaced the Banner battery with an Odessy battery.
