Zetec: Car started then died

Car was running fine over the winter when it had a couple of runs but the battery needed placing. Last ran the car in Feb and drove ~20 miles with the old battery but the car hasn’t been driven much in the last year so I played it safe and replaced the battery today with the same Odessey that was in there before.

The car started and then died 10 seconds later. Multiple retries and nothing. Went for lunch. Tried a few more times. It started and immediately died.

key photo is here. Any chance of this being an immobilizer issue ? (I don’t think so but i’m not experienced enough)

Thanks Alex.

another option could be low / no fuel. The gauge shows 1/2 but we added a few liters just to be safe. Is there a min fuel amount needed ?  I can’t imagine that the amount of driving it’s had would burn through a whole tank but possibly evaporated over the winter ?

First it didnt evaporate . If you check the fuel pump circuit ,if it electric, then check he relay, you can jump across the terminals to power the pump, another thing, the flue pump has a SOCK FILTER on the pick up side of the pump, it can clog and make you think all kinds of crap is going wrong. I put a air hose on the fuel  pump tube and blow if off, its a pain in the ass and will clog up any way.

or take the gas hose off the engine and turn the key on, you should get gas flow for 1 second, and it will shut off,Then crank the motor and see if gas comes out, If the system is EFI type

Update: it looks like we are back in business!!! The culprit was a broken fuse. Not blown but broken. That would explain why it was able to restart and die 1-2 times and then not again.

we pulled a fuse from my friends Porsche GT3. Haha.

Stay tuned for more updates!
