das76
Car was running fine over the winter when it had a couple of runs but the battery needed placing. Last ran the car in Feb and drove ~20 miles with the old battery but the car hasn’t been driven much in the last year so I played it safe and replaced the battery today with the same Odessey that was in there before. The car started and then died 10 seconds later. Multiple retries and nothing. Went for lunch. Tried a few more times. It started and immediately died. 2005 Cat with SVT Focus (2003) engine any ideas ? video with sound is here: https://share.icloud.com/photos/0fdMJB-HVP6bSr0nZHIHtxhrw key photo is here. Any chance of this being an immobilizer issue ? (I don’t think so but i’m not experienced enough)
Alex-Ks1
check fuel pump relay or the pump its self,
das76
Thanks Alex. another option could be low / no fuel. The gauge shows 1/2 but we added a few liters just to be safe. Is there a min fuel amount needed ? I can’t imagine that the amount of driving it’s had would burn through a whole tank but possibly evaporated over the winter ? Alex-Ks1
First it didnt evaporate . If you check the fuel pump circuit ,if it electric, then check he relay, you can jump across the terminals to power the pump, another thing, the flue pump has a SOCK FILTER on the pick up side of the pump, it can clog and make you think all kinds of crap is going wrong. I put a air hose on the fuel pump tube and blow if off, its a pain in the ass and will clog up any way. or take the gas hose off the engine and turn the key on, you should get gas flow for 1 second, and it will shut off,Then crank the motor and see if gas comes out, If the system is EFI type
Vovchandr
My fuel pump is very loud, not sure about yours. Can you hear it pumping when you turn the key? Even before you start the car?
das76
I’m not sure. Newish car to me so still figuring things out! My friend nearby has a ‘98 so I’ll check his.
Alex-Ks1
Is your car EFI , if so the pump can run and even pump fuel , but the pressure can be low , you will need a pressure tester . It still sounds like a fuel prob to me
das76
Yes EFI. Is there a chance that the fuel gauge is way off ? that 1/2 isn’t actually 1/2 it’s more like 0 ?
Alex-Ks1
Can you stick a probe in the tank to see how much you really have ,or just try and fill it
MV8
Try cleaning and/or unplugging the MAF and trying to start. The wire inside the MAF gets dirty. There are aerosol cleaners for that.
das76
Update: it looks like we are back in business!!! The culprit was a broken fuse. Not blown but broken. That would explain why it was able to restart and die 1-2 times and then not again. we pulled a fuse from my friends Porsche GT3. Haha. Stay tuned for more updates!
