How many Lotus/Caterhams in the USA?

Does anyone have a good estimate as to how many S3/SV Caterhams / Lotuses are in the USA (I’m not interested in Birkin, Locost, Westfield, etc figures for this purpose )

Lesley the archiver at Caterham might know the real figure but there is some napkin math. 

 

At the optimistic high range Caterham sold 500 cars a year globally for last 20 years and likely close to half that for the other 30 on average. Less than 10% a year go to USA now that it's an established famous fast see desired brand after Top Gear and in Internet in general. 

 

So 20x50 and probably 30x12. Maybe 1300 cars total here. Likely close to half that in reality. 

 

@Croc has anymore scientific number from experience and decades in this world.

Thanks. That would make sense as I’ve heard that there are ~100 here in Canada and we are typically 1/10th of the US.

Your old post link still has my view on the topic. 

 

One way to find out is reach out to Martin Phipps, the Caterham archivist, and ask him how many kits sent here.  Add 20-30 for private imports and that is likely the best estimate we have. 

 

I have been meaning to get MArtin to pull the documentation on my 2010 Caterham and was planning to ask him at the same time but I have been too busy being unkind to the environment and destroying the world's remaining stock of Avon ZZRs.
