AccidentalSeven Posted January 4 Posted January 4 I have a 2002 Superlight R, with a 2.0 Zetec. My code reader indicates a purge valve error. According to the part numbers stamped in the plastic parts, my purge valve and canister are from a Rover from the 80's. So now I'm wondering what other purge valves can I use? Anybody with a 2.0 Zetec would please check it out?
MV8 Posted January 4 Posted January 4 Why adapt when the part is available on this side of the pond? Maybe the hose is split or it isn't plugged in. It is just a two-wire solenoid like most everything back then.
AccidentalSeven Posted January 4 Author Posted January 4 Hi MV8 -- the only parts I found were used ebay listings in UK, which is available but full of annoyance and risk. It is indeed a 2-wire solenoid, so I have the expectation that an easy solution already exists, and thus the question.
MV8 Posted January 4 Posted January 4 Is this it? New Bosch in California for $52 on ebay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/323692756597?_trkparms=amclksrc%3DITM%26aid%3D777008%26algo%3DPERSONAL.TOPIC%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20240131095853%26meid%3D66ca030562a4478da4c2f90090075ffb%26pid%3D101949%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26itm%3D323692756597%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D4375194%26algv%3DRecentlyViewedItemsV2WithMLRPbooster_BP%26brand%3DOEM&_trksid=p4375194.c101949.m162918&_trkparms=parentrq%3A336ff7761940a47ec9ce375effffb18c|pageci%3A594146de-caeb-11ef-8b8d-3e3245280276|iid%3A1|vlpname%3Avlp_homepage
Croc Posted January 4 Posted January 4 The purge tank is Delphi GM 17089060 from a 1989 Olds Calais or Buick Skylark. AC Delco cross match number is 215-69. Was also used on Rover 414 / 416 / 420 The purge solenoid valve is 69844 This was used a little more widely including a Rover 25 from 1999 to 2001 1
NSXguy Posted January 5 Posted January 5 pretty straightforward to test the purge valve specifically and check the entire evap system (components, wires and hoses) generally. I would confirm defective before replacing. it could be else something in the system. The purge device as stated earlier is simply a 2 wire solenoid (12v & ground), so can bench test with a spare battery and two wires to the solenoid terminals. if it passes, look for fault elsewhere. They can fail but it's easily a vehicle limetime item unless tank has been overfilled too many times in the past. 1
AccidentalSeven Posted January 5 Author Posted January 5 Hi Dez -- 12v into the terminals, and no choo-choo... dead quiet. Also, the tank was replaced by the previous owner.
