Xhilr8n Posted July 12, 2025 Posted July 12, 2025 So I’m still fishing around this new to me build and a wire falls from under the instrument panel that I’ve been expecting to show up. The small box with a basic 12 volt adapter came with the car. Fit right on, lit up the usbc adapter, it will charge a phone etc even without the key in the car. Wish my other vehicles would. Could leave them to charge when away from the vehicle. Thank goodness the fancy vehicles protect me from that 😉 So two questions. * What is the other wire for, if anything? * What can be done to secure it somewhere?
CBuff Posted July 12, 2025 Posted July 12, 2025 There is usually a fuse box cover. Which you can order from the importers here. It has a stock cut in it (facing the tunnel ) that it slips into. I drilled mine out and added another outlet and wired in two switches that change the input from ign switched to contestant power or off. Which I find handy. the silver barrel one is the stock location and unit.
CBuff Posted July 13, 2025 Posted July 13, 2025 The fuse box cover just wedges in between the dash and the firewall. I added some duo lock to make it more secure. you can source these from caterham or maybe the importers. They are sided and differ on some models so just make sure you getting the right one (if you want to go that route). It has a hole cut it in that the 12v outlet goes into. https://caterhamparts.co.uk/fuses-relays/4389-fusebox-cover-for-rhd-eu4-175-model.html
Xhilr8n Posted August 24, 2025 Author Posted August 24, 2025 Following CBuff’s guidance I’ve successfully mounted the 12 volt adapter under the instrument panel in a “solid enough” way using the 3m Duolock fastening tape. https://www.amazon.com/3M-SJ3560-CLR1333-Reclosable-Fastener/dp/B00AQ6IS1G?pd_rd_w=vXfmH&content-id=amzn1.sym.4cbcb1e0-172b-4571-a896-863b1ee67ab3&pf_rd_p=4cbcb1e0-172b-4571-a896-863b1ee67ab3&pf_rd_r=ECVM4QP45ZDMRVTA3S8F&pd_rd_wg=fwBzU&pd_rd_r=a37e8568-822c-4729-8fc2-10dd856609c4&pd_rd_i=B00AQ6IS1G&psc=1&ref_=pd_bap_d_grid_rp_0_60_i 1
