Timothy Keith-Lucas Posted September 16 Posted September 16 I ordered a tachometer on the UK eBay September 2. It shipped the same day via the postal service and arrived in Florida on the 12th. The shipping cost was L29.50, and no tariffs were noted. That's pretty good. But, I do note that the Customs Declaration was, shall we say, creative. It was called "Old Dial," the value was listed as L60 (I paid L188) and it was called a "gift" rather than "sales of goods." 1

They do know how to play the game, they've been dealing with this a lot longer than we have as VAT has no de minimus and their import duty de minimus is very low. I've received a number of bottles of vintage Whisky over the years marked (accurately) "old glass bottles". And been asked to send Lotus bits over marked "old parts for repair"
Timothy Keith-Lucas Posted September 16 Author Posted September 16 Thank you, Senc. Great stories! I think the good news here is that a part shipped September 2 did not run into US tariffs or delays that I and others have feared.
wdb Posted September 16 Posted September 16 I received two packages from the UK this week, both private sales. No whiff of tariffs yet. I was chatting about it with a friend today and we came to the conclusion that the tariff would have to be collected by some US agent, in my case either customs or the USPS. Neither has said anything yet. I learned that one of the items was marked "gift" by the sender, not sure how that will go. 1
