Spring Texas Hill Country tour

Well I am organizing a spring Hill Country tour here in Texas for April 11 12 13. \We will arrive friday evening, and start out about 8:30-9:00 for the drive.

We will be seeing some of the best roads and scenery that Texas has to offer. The bluebonnets and other wildflowers should be in full bloom at that time to aid in the scenery. We will be doing about 180 miles on saturday and 190 miles on Sunday. We will be based out of Fredricksburg Tx. which is a very nice little community that is loaded with about 300 neat shops for the ladies to browse thru. There are a few very nice wineries within 10 miles of town for the wine tasters in the group.

If I could get a count on the number of people that may be interested so that I can block off some hotel rooms for us. We will be staying at a new Hampton Inn that has plenty of room for us. Rooms should be about 95.00 per night. It should be a great little tour for Texas 7 owners and our friends from Michigan coming down for the event. PM me.

The concept sounds like great fun, but frankly, the idea of doing close to 400 miles in 2 days isn't all that appealing.

I consider my Stalker and nice 1 hour car... drive it for an hour, get out walk around, have lunch, get back into it and drive it another hour back to the starting spot.

Maybe it's my age!!!???

Anything available for the seniors among the group?

Hey Ken,

Heck we do 250 miles a day in our Stalkers at our Stalker Ambush events with no problem. We stop often to stretch, site see and eat. Most of the participants are ~50 + including my wife and I.

We do that for a week at a time.

Go for it..!!!

Yeah there is plenty to stop and see get out and stretch your legs. We are going to stop and eat, there is a state park that you can get out and visit. There are several small towns to browse around in. We will also be stopping by a winery the first day. The second day we will stop and look at a mini stonehinge, stop for best apple pie in the state. It is going to be a leisurely pace with plenty of time to stop and rest your butt. There will be parts of the route that you could short cut back to town if you have had your fill.

It isn't always the year of the car that causes the problem, sometimes it's the mileage.

The same is quite true in my case too. While the age is 64, the mileage includes some long standing back problems, including arthritis in the lower spine.

I am new to this forum, due to a budding interest in Caterham 7. I live in the Austin area and would love to meet up with participants in this event, get a closer look at the cars and possibly get a ride!

Any owners in the Austin area?

Buzz Dillion lives in Austin he has an S2k and an Elise. His Ultralite is still in Houston but I expect he will have it up there shortly. He is very hard person to get in touch with. I dont think he visits this site very often but I can probably get the two of you together in the future. Buz is looking at coming to the Hill County event.

Is this open to spectators?

I'm looking at building a locost 7, but am still in the planning/buy books stage right now. I'd love to at least come up, see the cars, see the frames, and the scale of the project, if I'm welcome. And if a generous person could give me a ride, that would be awesome!:7fume:

Alright folks time has come to make your hotel reservations. I have sent messages to everyone that has expressed an intrest. So if you have not heard from me you have been left off the list so contact me promptly so I can make sure I have enough rooms. Hotel reservations must be made by March 11th to secure your room. If you dont your on your own. So far we have 9 sure things and 3 maybes so make up your minds. The weather and the scenery is going to be great so dont miss out on the fun. We are going to be staying at the Best Western the rate is 149.00 per night. Peak season and rooms are hard to find.

If you have not been apart of the national 7s tour or the sevens festival you will need to pay membership the the USA7s folks so they can cover us for insurance. I will post the reservation info tommorrow. The guest services is calling me in the morning.

Hotel reservations need to be completed by March 11. There is a 7 day cancellation for groups. So reserve your room then cancel by April 4 if your plans change. Group registration is USA7s or #1222. I set aside 14 rooms 3 of which are smoking. I am unsure which folks are smokers or not. If you are a smoker please take one of those rooms. There are also several rooms with twin queens if you want to share rooms and save cost. A head count for attendance would be good so that I can look for a restaurant for us Sat. night.

Check other events happening in Fredricksburg the same weekend. http://www.wliinc2.com/cgi/foxweb.dll/wlx/cal/wlxcaleday?sd=04/05/2008&cc=FDCC&more=04/05/2008

FWIW, I have less back and neck pain after a day's worth of driving in the Seven than I have after driving same time in my Honda Accord. Admittedly it is easier to get in and out of the Accord :D

Well folks we are going to make some changes. I had a phone conversation with someone that has more experience in the area and he made some good suggestions. Fredricksburg is going to be packed the whole month of April. This means slow traffic crowded and increased expense. The driving roads around Fredricksburg are ok but the Kerville and Gillespie counties have the best ones. So instead of staying in the Fredrickburg are we will be staying in Kerville the rooms are much cheaper it has good resteraunts and it is closer to the best roads. It doesnt have as much shopping and sheer charm as Fredricksburg but it is only 22 miles away if you want to go for a look.

So we are going to make Saturday the main driving day. You can spend as little as or as much time driving as you wish. There are multiple loops so you can go back to your hotel anytime you have had enough.

We will leave Fredricksburg area for Sunday touring. I would like to take group picture of the cars in front of the Lukenbach post office and hit some of the better roads in the area. This will allow folks to make Sunday a shorter day so they can travel back home and still get the best driving done.

It seems most of the hotel managers that do groups are all gone for the day. Just hold tight and look back here on Monday. Most of the hotels are all within a few blocks of one another and there seems to be good supply of rooms.

Ok guys and gals I have found us a hotel. We have 15 rooms blocked for us at the LaQuinta Inn and Suites in Kerville. Address is 1940 Sydney Baker, phone # is 830 896 9200. Tell them you are with the USA7s when getting your room. We have 10 king singles at 89.99, 5 twin queen rooms for 99.99 all are Non Smoking rooms. You have until MARCH 23 to get your room then the rooms will be released.

The hotel is 2 years old and has had good reviews it is close to several restraunts. If for some reason you want to stay somewhere else you will have to make those reservations on your own. There are multiple other chain motels on that 1 miles stretch of Sydney Baker.

Hi Loren,

The ".est" files you have posted are, I take it, "Microsoft Streets and Trips" files. Since I don't have that software, is there a way to get the info in another form? I have a Garmin GPS and it would be fun to have the route in it. Even if you were only able to output a text file of the directions, that would be fine....

Thanks!

Bernie
