New to Seven's, looking for a ride in middle Tennessee.

Recommended Posts

Hey guys (and gals?), I'm looking to get a ride in a locost, caterham, or any sevens based car somewhere in the middle tennessee area. I'm a full time student thats interning in a speed shop full of big, monsterous engines. I was inspired by big hp #'s and I am currently contemplating putting my 380ci (destroked 400) sbc into a 'sevenesque' locost. Many members of Locostusa.com highly encouraged me to get a ride in a 1200lb 200hp type car before I go off looking to build a 450-460hp 1800lb car.

I would really appreciate a ride somewhere local and I would be willing to drive 50 miles outside of Murfreesboro if someone could help me out. Also, I'll pay for lunch or pitch in some gas money if we can work something out.

Thanks,

Steven

Mandurath and Jack Green are both near you - both locosts... in the general section, there is a frppr map link that shows members nearby. There is one Caterham in Knoxville, but that's kinda far away.

If you're ever around DC, there are probably about 20 sevens running around here... Caterhams, Ultralites, and [cough] V8s[/cough] :D

heh... she is far from home. but she'll be back, better than ever. I don't know if we have time to do the front suspension the way I like it this time around, but after this round of mods, I've addressed alot of what I thought the car needed. Soon enough it'll be time to really tune the suspension and do some :jonautox:

Heheh Don't think he will get much input from mine. As the only way its going anywhere is on a trailer. Not much fun to ride on, esp if you saw my trailer. (The railing is made out of old industrial sprinkler pipe, including a sprinkler head or two, hehe how many high dollar trailers even have a built in fire suppression system?) Don't think mine will be ready until next spring, though I am always hopeful. I think Jack sold his, or at least there was one for sale in Nashville a while back by someone named Jack. 7's are rare in our neck of the woods. To get a ride, your going to have to get at least 3 hours away from Nashville that I am aware of. In your DD, wouldn't cost much and it would be well worth it. The frappr map is nice, but I don't think all have put their pins on the map.

What's to think about? Huge power, light weight, just do it!

Or, to try to duplicate the experience: nail a reclining chair to the back of a flat bed trailer truck & have it driven down a bumpy road at 100 mph. Imagine that you can stop or turn on a dime. That's sort of it, especially if its 110 degrees in the shade that day:).

There was a rather lively thread on locostusa on whether a V8 in a seven is even a good idea.

From what I hear, the car won't handle worth crap ;)

I realize that a 1800lb car will not have the handeling abilities of a 1200lb car, but still, I've always been the kind of person who sees things first in power/weight, then adaptability, and finaly driveability. I've had rides in a camaro with 650bhp, but its a whole different beast (tb powerglide, dot slicks, etc...) and thats not what I'm looking for. I want something that will still own a stock vette through a road course, but also has world class acceleration.

And I guess I'll end up going to knoxville some weekend if I can get into contact with the owners. Who knows, maybe I could get a UT basketball fan to pay for gas.

I have had the pleasure of owning both for a few years now... Even at 1800 lbs, you're still 1100 lbs lighter than a vette, not to mention lower CG. I love the vette, but in terms of performance, there is no comparison in any category, except probably in top speed.

there should be no rush to decide what type of powerplant to use nor the final build weight. use the website as another resource. learn about all the different scenarios manufacturers and selfbuilds have entailed. they run the gamut from

sub 1000 lb bike engine to 1000lb 45 yr old 1 litre I4 Lotuses to 1200 lb 200hp demons to 1800 lb v8 beast and everything in between.

If ur prepared for multiple builds, then start as soon as u can, as u won't regret it. But if its a do it once, do it right, then tagging along for a year or so to see what transpires here, the locostusa list, the sevens list, meeting other owners and experiencing their se7ens will narrow down your focus.

GL!

I can toss my hat in the ring if you are up for the 3 hour drive. No V8, nothing fancy just a Twin Cam Caterham maybe 130-140HP. (Remeber I am now in Birmingham) I can alos take you to a small building where you may be able to understand the logic behind -to add speed add lightness-

If you do get to DC slngsht has your car.
