Gas Mileage?

I'm just curious as to what other people are getting out of their car. So far, my car is getting around 22 MPG on the freeway. When I put the spurs to her, it drops to about 15. Ouch.

This is with a 1700cc x-flow with 149.5 peak horsepower on tap (and no, the motor isn't particularly fond of lugging around under 4k, though it does so dutifully).

I usually average 28mpg with about 25% of the time being highway miles and squirting off the line whenever possible on the streets. 100% highway mileage is around 32mpg (at 70mph...ish). The car is a 2001 fuel injected Zetec, completely stock mechanicals save for the lightweight flywheel. On the track it probably drops to around 10mpg, however, I never bothered to check exactly.

Welcome to the wonderful world of crossflows and webers! Your mileage is only 1-2mpg worse than what I used to get with my old 120hp crossflow. My Duratec on the other hand has 190hp and typically returns 25-28mpg in city/back road driving. Of course it doesn't sound anywhere as near as good...

If the mileage is a concern, then you might want to consider installing a 3D ignition system. I explored this before switching to the Duratec and heard from a number of people who reported much better drivability and another 3-6mpg.

That sounds about right. My old crossflow (145hp) would get low to mid 20's on a cruise, but drop to 14/15 when pushed. It's worth learning to tune the webers so you are getting the best from the engine (and each gallon), plus the looks you get from the neighbors - rubber tube running from carb to ear - can be quite amusing http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/images/emoticons/biggrin5.gif
