Mandurath
Well, at least those with a mind to will be able to legally own them as is their right in the first place. Heh, I mean the anti gun laws have kept downtown DC soooo safe as they are.
gjslutz
I do think everyplace where guns have been banned the violent crime has went up. I’m not even one of those unemployed people in PA. that clings to their guns and Bibles. I’m just a poor unemployed Ohio plastics worker.
locostv8
" A well regulated militia......." Anecdotes abound on both sides. Mine would begin with Engineering classes I had 3 decades ago in a Va Tech classroom that was recently the site of......... Well, you get the point. I did not come to my position because of that tragedy - it only reinforced it. My feeling is first of all if the state followed up on psych problems he wouldn't have been able to legaly buy guns. I feel that if a vehicle to allow conceled wepons had been in place there would have been less fatalities. If the DC sniper had tried that in my area one of those Bubbas would have popped him with the piston in his pu.
gjslutz
For several years I ran all over the country buying exotic & special interest cars, as well as aircraft. Never W/O a hand gun. As most of the time I did this with cash I felt it was the best thing to do. When I was working these were very fast trips, as I needed to return to work. People would cut a better deal with cash over a check. Any check can have payment stopped! A few times it was required to ensure my return, most were on the east coast. Each time I was prepared to use it, but with someone looking down the barrel, they changed their action plan. None were a one on one. I was glad for the outcome. All of those trips had more pressure due to carrying cash as well as the hand gun, there were many places I would not go, to avoid a problem. I don’t think a big stick would have had the same effect, as they had guns. About 5 years ago I was into NW Montana, to purchase an aircraft; I had a large bore short hand gun, as well as a year before that when I purchased an aircraft in Seattle. It sure was nice to have it as part of survival gear for the flight home over the outback. I do believe we should be able to make our personal choice on this. I like slingsht never carried a bible but spent a year, 1967 / 1968 in a war W/O killing anyone, and was very glad I didn’t. I was shot at many times, but I was doing other things at the time. powderbrake
The opinion will resonate through the uSA for years to come. I urge you to read it. http://www.supremecourtus.gov/opinions/07pdf/07-290.pdf The syllabus on pps 1-4 is succinct and definitive. The analysis of the prefatory and the operative clauses makes it totally clear as to the intent and execution that the writers of the bill of rights had in mind. Reading the full text is interesting, as the Judges take shots at earch other. The depth of the research on this case is astounding, going back to newspaper articles of the time.. I dunno, maybe I've been in the ghetto too long but I can always spot the things that will make me sweat long before they have even noticed me. Not because of safety. Freaking pot holes that show up out of nowhere. Well, I would not leave my car in south east DC, but north west is relatively safe, and paid parking is pretty safe too. Chet, I know you used to own a C5, so you appreciate how low they are. There are pot holes in DC that the C5 will not clear. and i'm not talking about the little plastic air dam. Couple of years ago I was going over the 395 bridge on my way to E street, and they had started shaving the bridge surface, but left the joints at the regular level. Basically very high speed bumps in the middle of a highway. People slowed down, and I had to take it like a man. The front guards took a nice scrape :banghead:
chetcpo
Yikes. That would keep me away too. In WV, you can send your repair bills and other documentation on to the state division of highways and usually ge them reimbursed. Buy I understand all states aren't this ahead of the curve.
