ottocycle
Hello all, I thought I would throw this out there for your input and amusement. Has anybody come across the ideal tool kit to carry in your car? A list of tools to have in a bag with you to cover unforeseen issues. I am of the opinion that any tool box that can be lifted by one man will never have the tool you need in it when you need it! Does anybody dare list the perfect tool kit to carry in your LSIS. Think about it....its not as easy as you might think. Or, failing that, what tools do you comsider to be "must have" that are not obvious. I like the idea of having an on board camera for track days to use as a learning tool. I know nothing about them and would like advice on getting one. How much does one need to budget to get a decent one? What do you need and what is fluff? Now that the weather is getting better would anybody in the Metro Washington, DC area be interested in getting together on a Sunday morning for coffee, show and tell and BS? Any takers? Thanks. Dermot.
MHKflyer52
Hi Dermot, I can not say it is the ideal tool kit to carry in your car but Allied Tools has a small portable tool kit model # 59096 that has both metric and american standard tools in it that I carry 90% of the time in my 7. It fits nicely just in front of the passanger seat on the floor as it is approx 15" long X 12" wide X 3-1/2" deep and stores 131 tools all with their own individual space for storage. I also carry a cell phone and have a AAA membership for those times when I might need a tow truck to get me back home. So I guess the best tool box is the cell phone and AAA membership as they will get you home 99% of the time. :7frog: Knock on wood now as I have not had to use the cell phone or AAA tow as of yet with the 7 but I have used it for other autos that I due have and glad to have had both with me when needed. slomove
selected sets of 1/4" and of 1/2" sockets, most common wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, sidecutter, connectors&crimper, scissor jack, most important: duct tape and cable ties. I noticed many of the prepared tool boxes mostly contain air; so all tools are just in a small 12" "bigmouth" canvas tool bag with the sockets in the side compartments and the small parts/consumables in a plastic shopping bag . That has worked well on long distance tours (USA2005, PNW2007) and many long local tours. Gert
BobDrye
You need to ask Steve Taylor what he keeps in his seven. On last September's Blat I carried over $1000.00 in tools and spare parts. I never had what I needed, but Steve did! :banghead:
Mandurath
There are some pretty mice multi tools out there, even ones that come with assorted sockets built in. May want to check out the motorcycle tool kits. Just make sure it has the ones that fit your nuts, bolts fuses etc and you will be set. Nice thing about so many new metric bikes is the proliferation of stuff like tool kits for them. Oh yeah, duct tape. Something I carry in my semi, that I will have a small roll of when going to the track is what we call 100 mph tape. Its a heavy duty aluminum foil with a very heavy, tar like adhesive backing. Once its there, its damn near permanent. Useful for plugging holes, or damaged bodywork. Just have to be careful, as the edge while laying it out is sharp. You see it on semi trailers covering up holes in them. hmmmmm wonder how hard it would be to use the on-star out of a donor vehicle.......... WestTexasS2K
We just purchase this camera and I used it this weekend it is great. The picture quality is great. It is easy to use and best feature is a wireless remote that attaches easliy to the dash. Just hit record/tag/stop it has built in screen so you can adjust camera angle. It is water proof so you dont have to panic if bad weather pops up. http://www.vio-pov.com/
