Caterham CSR260 vs Lotus 211

Someone on the Lotus forum sort of translated the gist:

He liked both cars and didn't pick a winner. Apparently, he liked the old-school feel of sitting above the rear axle in the CSR260 and he liked the low polar inertia of the 211.

But which car left him panting... http://emoticons4u.com/cool/653.gif

Wow it seems like the caterham was dirtracked around the course. is this simple power oversteer?, or terrible unbalance? i wasnt driving it but it looked like a handful including his spin. better invest in spare rear tires.

Maybe it's me, but when i was racing, sideways was never the quick way around the corner.

yeah it did seem like the caterham excited him more..but without knowing german, not sure if this was good or bad.. i would love to have seen time vs time around the course. the 211 has got to be a awesome track car. well...both would be awesome track cars!

As much as i have come to adore my se7en....if someone wanted to trade even up for a lotus 211......i wouldnt think twice. I'll take it in yellow please.

keep the Tonig.. :ack: i'll keep my se7en even with it's briggs and stratton x-flow

What's the problem with the language? I found it perfectly understandable

I mean, I am always surprised to hear a style on public channels nowadays that used to be teenager slang in my times over there and laced with ample profanity (or what used to be foul language before it became commonplace). Sounds like I am getting old.....

Anyway, as others observed he was indeed somewhat more excited about the Seven due to its roughness (or purity). Spending quite a bit explaining middle engine vs. front engine for dummies (e.g. that the Lotus has 62% on the rear axle) I found it a decent TV clip. I suppose he pulled off the drifting show just because it looks good. But he appears to be a pretty good driver; I could not do that with a car I drive the first time.

P.S.: just googled the name Tim Schrick and found he is a racer who participated a few times in the 24hr races on the 'ring. So I guess he knows what he is doing.

I wouldn't trade my Se7en for a 2-11. I got a ride in one on the track at LOG27 and wasn't that impressed with it. Granted, I didn't get to drive it, only Emmo and the factory guy did that. Another reason I wouldn't trade is that the 2-11 isn't legal for the street in the USA.

I was on the track with the 2-11 most of the afternoon, we were both giving rides, often one following the other and I had the impression my car was faster than the 2-11 even with the factory test driver in the 2-11. Two people who got rides in the 2-11 told me later that the 2-11 couldn't keep up with my car.

Maybe it's because of my rallying background and a love of classic cars, but I think that seeing a car slide around progressively like that tells me more about the handling than just being able to take corners fast.

The driver was most certainly inducing the oversteer intentionally

The fifth gear video in the other thread gives a pretty good idea that you can get the Cat to turn good times too.

The Lotus are great too, my father has a Supercharged Elise, it is a lot of fun

I think that's for television. He seemed very good, he could really spin that steering wheel. You wouldn't see any of that if you were making him work to stay in front of you.

Thought it was a good case for round steering wheels, as opposed to those ecentric shapes you see sometimes. Wish I understood his language, or better yet had a day to follow him around and get some serious old school learning!
