Silk Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 The Cumberland autox series opened up this past weekend, and Jeff Duncan and I had some great battles in our respective sevens. This was my first time out in the Stalker and Jeff was debuting Hoosier slicks on his Ultralite. Both of us did the seven world proud, with 3rd and 4th places on Saturday and 1st and 2nd on Sunday. The Cumberland field is always loaded with a good number of well prepped, fast cars, with lots of Porsches, Vettes, Cobras and some open wheel formula cars. I think both of us have targets on our backs now. Here’s a link to the results. http://www.nationalroadrally.com/icebreak_08.html
slngsht Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 Good work! What's the top speed you reach in the autox?
Silk Posted May 6, 2008 Author Posted May 6, 2008 Cumberland is typically much faster than an SCCA course. The faster cars will hit high 70s to low 80s. Every once in a while they let us air 'em out and give us a long run up one of the runways and people are into the 90s. Several claim to have crested 100. It's a great venue for fast, high HP cars. People that favor tight, technical courses go elsewhere. Once you and Bob get your rail dragsters back on the road you should come on up. You'd love it.
Kitcat Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 Back when I was auto-xing regularly w/the SCCA, top speed was supposed to be 60 mph. If I broke 50 mph in my Miata, I thot I'd done something. Our local 'Vette hot shoe was hitting mid-60's, maybe. No one ever got out of 1st-2nd gear. Amazing how thrilling slow speeds can be!
jwduncan Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 FTD the 1st time out in the car is pretty impressive. Congrats Gary. :hurray: Running on slicks sure does make it fun. The grip level is very addictive. Looking forward to a competitive summer series at the airport.

I ran in Oscoda Michigan one year in my Eagle Talon and was hitting top of third (about 90 mph) on the back sweeper. My ex- was in the car with me and she told me later she thought we were going to flip. Gotta love those Hossier slicks.
Stokked Posted May 11, 2008 Posted May 11, 2008 Congrats to both of you. That's impressive. 82 cars in the field on Sunday! And 2 sevens at the top of the list!
7evin Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 7s ROCK ! Auto-xing, Road racing or throwing down at the drag strip... Just gotta love them. Great job guys keep up the great work ! Cheers 7evin
