DB6
Can anyone tell me or (take a peek at their car) and tell me what the fastener is for the top inner mounting hole on both sides. I see regular bolts (about a 1/4 to 5/16 or so) , washers and nylock nuts on the inside for every hole but the top one which seems not to have clearance emough due to the sping coils to get a nut and washer on; were these self tapper screws without nuts on the back originally? The reason I ask is that I just have empty holes on both sides and notice a bit of creak and movement between wing and body due to no fasteners whatsover. Thank you David
yellowss7
On my 2000 Caterham, the rear wing fasteners are all the same all the way around the wing. They go into rivenuts in the side skin. Except for 3 that go into the boot and those have washers on both sides with nylocs. If I remember correctly they were M5x20 bolts. I've replaced my steel ones with nylon ones. I only use 3 or 4 bolts to hold on the wings I use for autoxing. If they are tighened, they hold the wing on very securely, and if I hit a cone, they nylon bolts break off and do not damage the rivenuts or sideskin. If you're only missing a couple of bolts, check that the others are snugged up. Tom
DB6
Thanks Tom, I do not see on my car how there is room for any kind of back nut on the uppermost hole due to lack of clrearane with the spring . Regards DB
yellowss7
David, the rivenuts are in the sideskin and the bolts screw into them. (however, could they could have been ripped out by the previous owner and never replaced???)
DB6
Possibly, however, there is hardly any room at all due to the spring coil, I am guessing that the coils clipped the nuts and popped them.If you put your fingers back there it is VERY close. yellowss7
Here's a pic from my build. If you look real closely, you can see the small silver colored rivenuts in the skin where the wing attaches. yellowss7
Ok, no problem. but like I said, snug the others up tight and that might work. bTW, are you using the black welting between the wing and the body? That should fill any gaps and stop the squeaking. Tom

Here is a pic I just took. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1823084403_Wing hole.JPG

Tom Tom, I know that;) however it has the same whine and pitch that my ex used with me when I was in trouble.(it's like she is sitting on my shoulder when I get in the car. Gives me the shivers:cry: I guess I will just have to drive faster.
MHKflyer52
Hi DB6, Looks like you might be hearing your shock spring rubbing on your frame from the looks of the photo you posted. The other option you have is to move the bolt hole over about a half inch. Just an observation.
bball7754
Is there enough clearance if you reverse the direction the bolt is fitted and have the head on the inside? Steve
DB6
Is there enough clearance if you reverse the direction the bolt is fitted and have the head on the inside? Steve Thanks for the input guys, There is really no room for any nut or bolt head that I can feel back there, it is that tight. The sqweaks come from the wing/ welt /body not the coil, that does clear the body.
